Nutrition Labels Should Mark Animal By-Products

This petition asks that the FDA require clear, bold faced labeling on all foods and medicines which state any animal products used in production and their source. For example, a medication may have a label which states "contains pork-based gelatin." Many foods and medicines contain animal by-products which are not clearly marked on the labeling or listed under unclear terms. It is difficult for the consumer to know what she is ingesting! This is especially important for vegetarians and followers of varioius religious groups with dietary restrictions. We, the undersigned, ask that the FDA enforce such labeling on all foods and medicines by September 2008 and all dates thereafter. Sincerely

This information is important for religious reasons as well as health and safety reasons (such as allergies) Your help is greatly appreciated. Thank you.
