Background Research Scientists started using animals for research because they knew something inside animals can cure humans for their diseases. Biomedical research was used to cure most of every living things. www.aalas.org/pdf/08-00007.pdf says that “ To answer this, we must first understand what “Biomedical research” is. Looking at a breakdown of terms according to the Webster’s Dictionary, we find “bio” meaning “life or living organism,” “medical” meaning “healing; pertaining to the science, study, or practice of medicine, or the art of healing diseases,” and “research” meaning “careful, patient, systematic, diligent inquiry or examination in some field of knowledge, undertaken to establish facts or principles”. in simplified terms, we can understand from these definitions that biomedical research is the search for ways to heal living organisms such as humans and other animals”. Also, it helped the scientist know how people caught the diseases they have. This made the scientists make new drugs to try to heal them. In the process of making the medicine, it took away animal lives. These animals were ordered from the scientists. They told the breeders what kind of dog they wanted and they made that happen by breeding to different animals. These kinds of dogs have a short life span. This is not the only kind of animal cruelty, there are people that physically hit their pets and hurt them. Sometimes animal owners kill their pets. Also at home, they never feed their pets and they die of hunger. Another way pets are abused is, left in the street left to die. Another way people abuse animals is to have sexual intercorse with them. Especially with dogs and horses. Solution What I would do to stop animal cruelty is to make a letter to President Obama and in it would have a lot of peoples signatures and would say that these people and I want animal cruelty abolished by making it against the law to experiment on animals. I would like it to be a law but most of the people won’t like it. This might stop most of the scientist from doing experiments on animals and making them breed other kinds of species. If that doesn't work, then i would try to make a group of people and protest in front of the buildings where they are keeping the animals and doing experiments on.
