The petition
Legalize M.M.A. in West Virginia
Target: Governor Joe Manchin III, Senator Earl Ray Tomblin, Athletic Commission for West Virginia
Website: www.AngerManagement4mma.com
Description:
M.M.A. is nothing more than human cockfighting and since dog fighting is illegal why should we allow humans to knee, kick, and punch each other. These are the beliefs commonly expressed by the opposition to the legalization of M.M.A. When was the last time a dog or a cock was able to choose whether or not to enter into the ring. How many hours of cardio does the dog spend at the gym to ensure his being fit enough to endure the duration of the fight? The typical training for such illegal activities usually involves placing the dog/cock in a fight and wagers are placed on which is believed to be the victor. How much of the actual purse is used on the quality of life for the animal? How much of the purse is used for further training to help prevent injury?
M.M.A. is here and it is definitely here to stay. Why are the politicians in West Virginia afraid of this sport? M.M.A. has evolved, just like in professional football whereby they “protect the Q.B., rules have been put into place to help ensure the safety of M.M.A. fighters. All physical sports present some degree of danger while others face danger regularly. The drivers of NASCAR have seen many drivers end their lives on the track. Professional boxing, which is also known as “the sweet science” has seen its share of tragedy in the ring. As recent as the past 2008 Kentucky derby, this country witnessed an athlete euthanized after sustaining an injury during one of America’s greatest sporting events. Wrestling Entertainment has surely seen their tragedies in the ring throughout the years.
M.M.A. athletes are more skilled and trained then any boxer. M.M.A. athletes choose to demonstrate their trainings and skills. These athletes spend an excessive amount of time in the gym They do all of this for our entertainment as well as to support their competitive natures to demonstrate their skills. M.M.A. athletes also fight to demonstrate the schools trainings and beliefs that can be traced back centuries. This country was founded on the idea that everyone would have the ability to life, liberty and pursuit of happiness. I argue that keeping this sport illegal hinders the pursuit of happiness for many.
In truth, I am uncertain what will become of this petition. After all, on numerous occasions this has been vetoed. What saddens me is the fact that the arguments that are commonly used draw no direct correlation with that of a true human sport.
People signed this petition to fight for the legalization of M.M.A. in West Virginia. Now that we know their reasoning for voting down the proposal for the legalization, now is the time to fight harder.
I personally want to thank everyone that has taken the time to sign this petition and take a stand.
