Name: H. Downs on Dec 29, 2009Comments: Loyal customer since 1978. Charged many thousands of dollars on card. Have Optima, and several other Amex cards with my business. My credit score is in the "very low risk" category. Amex sent me letter saying they had to reduce my available credit to 1/5 what it was in a generic letter about late payments (I have none), high balances (all my credit cards are paid off) and so on. (!) Interest rates also went up. In my 30 years of experience, AMEX is a very poorly run, non-customer friendly operation. The *only* reason I use AMEX is for Costco. Bye, bye Costco. Sorry. You should pay attention to who you get in bed with.Flag

AE's actions are despicable and unconscionable. They are so blatantly taking this action prior to the new credit act taking effect. I cannot understand why the attorney generals of every state in the union aren't going after these creeps.Flag

Name: Donald G Kimball on Dec 31, 2009Comments: My rate went from 15 percent to 27 percent without any misuse on my part at all. I have been a loyal Amex customer for 10 years. I will NOT be renewing my card ever again. I am also thinking of starting a media protest where I discretely show my bills on Youtube and how abusive AMEX has become. It should get lots of hits and make more people aware before they sign up for this demonic card.Flag

Name: Jeanette Strumbos on Jan 28, 2010Comments: We have had an American Express Card for many years and always paid our bills on time. A few years ago our interest was raised for no reason so we paid off the balanced and canceled the card . Later we were offered a card with a 7.99% rate and decided to accept. Then we got a notice offering to transfer balances for 4.99% . We transfered a balance from another card and canceled the card. In August of 09 we get a letter saying our 7.99 fixed rate would now be a variable rate. Our rate changed in Aug. to 12.99%. On Aug. 5, 2009 we get another letter saying all existing balances would become effective for the new rate as of Oct. l, 2009. All our balances are now at 15.24 %. We have never been late with a payment and always pay a lot more than a minimum payment. So what is their problem. Today I recieved a letter saying that our credit limit for purchases was dropped from $ 9,000 To $ 3,900 and our cash limit was dropped from $ 2,000 To $ 200 . These changes were made before the new law was passed in 2009. They knew what was coming so they wanted to take the public for everything they could before the law went thru, Thats how these company's treat the people that work and try to pay their bills. Then they want us to bail them out of their criminal acts. All these executives should spend the rest of their lives living on the streets or locked up as far a I am concerned.Flag

Name: Teri on Feb 24, 2010Comments: I was a couple days late on my payment but paid more than my mininum balance due and they still raised my interest rate, I should add that that was my first time late ever on the loan. AMEX are total jerks and I will pay off that card and never use it again and I will tell my parents to do the same.Flag

Name: Jeannette Balthaser on Feb 25, 2010Comments: They raised my rate to 27.9% because I was a couple of days late. I had paid my bills above and beyond the amount due on time up until that time. I tried to reason with them, but it did not work.Flag

Name: Anonymous on May 22, 2011Comments: I received an e-mail today, from AMX, (I have had the card 6 months) that they have canceled my AMX account and not to use the card. I have never missed a payment, I pay about $1000.00 average on the card, paying the balance in full. When I called they said because I was late on my mortgage, they had the right to do this. I thought this was what the new Credit Card Act was for? I am in the middle of a refinance of my mortgage with the same bank. Was advised not to make any payments until they finished my refi because they were lowing my interest rate. What can I do if any. The rep from AMX was very nasty and said he would attempt to reopen my account for a $25.00 fee. Which was declined, yet they said it would be billed on my next statement. How can they bill an account that has been closed. I had heard stories of AMX and how they took advantage of customers. Since I paid my yearly fee, am I entitled to a prorated refund. I hope they go bust, I should never signed the letter they sent me, asking me to be a AMX Card holder. Did the Credit Card Act allow this?????Flag
