Our school has recently laid plans for introducing a mandatory uniform. This uniform, whilst strict and revolutionary for this school, which has, in recent years, seen a developing designer trend where Hollister and Paul's Boutique have dominated the attire of the younger years, it is a basic uniform of plain blacks and will not help solve the problem we are facing. This is wrong. It is a tacky over commercialisation of our school which sets a bad example amongst visitors and the townspeople who see this tack paraded throughout the town's eateries. Furthermore the logo distinction has added fuel to the ever increasing blaze of bullying which is solely based on personal circumstance which is increasingly broadcasted by one's personal attire. What we propose is a standardised uniform for all years. All pupils must wear a plain white shirt or blouse with a school tie, with the option of wearing plain black shirt or blouse in 4th Year and above. In 5th Year pupils would be given the option of wearing the school blazer. In 6th year all pupils would be expected to wear the blazer. In 1st to 4th years, a plain black school jumper or cardigan can be worn. There would be no commercial logos allowed, except on shoes, for which it is ever harder to find non-marked footwear. School shoes MUST be worn. There would be no acceptance of denim or other non school materials. Stripes and similar patterns would be forbidden. In addition, fake tan and other extreme make-ups which are not of neutral colour i.e skin coloured oppsed to red or green or blue, would be banned. In the event of someone not wearing the correct uniform, instead of sending them home, or simply warning them, we believe that the school should carry spare uniforms, in quantity, to give to pupils who are in breach of the uniform policy. This should be instigated following an agreement of contract stating thus. In addition to this forced change of uniform, parents should be fined when their children do not abide by the uniform. This would help to reduce the parent lack of enthusiasm with abiding by school uniform. it would also help deter pupils from wearing non regulation clothing on the pretense that they would be forced to wear a substitute unfiorm. Please help us to reduce bullying in the school, improve our image to the town and outsiders alike, and help restore a sense of pride in the school by signing this petition to make amendments to the new uniform policy.
