This year, Amen Association struggles to include Pomalidomide and Carfilzomib new drugs in the health basket, for bone marrow cancer patients (Multiple Myeloma). Bone marrow cancer is a deadly blood cancer. about 250 new patients are diagnosed in Israel each year, and a total of 2,000 patients and families are living in Israel and facing every day with the disease and its consequences. Bone marrow cancer (Multiple Myeloma) causes great suffering to patients: the damage to the bones, kidneys, and the tendency of infection makes coping with the disease much more difficult. There is hope! Previously approved drugs in the health basket extended the average survival period of 2.5 years to seven to ten years, and experts believe that in the near future it will be possible to cure the disease. This year there are two new medicines that allow patients new treatment lines. For hundreds of patients these drugs are the only option to extend the lives until future healing is possible!! In order to save patients and their families the harsh decision of funding the expensive drugs from their own pockets or waiving the treatment needed to extend their lives - we ask members of the committee to include the drug in the health basket, in order to prolong the lives of patients, and give them hope!
