We want an ALL WAY STOP on Elliott Street at St James Street!
Since
traffic lights were placed at Elliott Street and Oxford Street, Drivers
have been using Elliott Street as a detour to avoid main streets (i.e.
Adelaide). The traffic that comes down Elliott Street daily is
constant and drivers are not obeying the speed limit and are going 60-80
km/h, Sometimes even faster.
There are many children and pets that
live on Elliott Street and already 2 cats have been hit and killed by
speeding drivers as well as rabbits, squirrels and a raccoon.
On
November 20, 2009 My 1 year old kitten Lola was hit and killed. She
was hit by a speeding mini van and left to die. She took her last
breath while I held her in my arms.
In October 2010 a young raccoon
was hit and crawled under a car for safety as it was dying. I found the
raccoon and sat beside it, petting its leg as it cried and we waited
for help. The young raccoon died 5 minutes before help arrived.
In
November 2010 a neighbors cat was hit and hid under a deck for 2 days
before she was found. She was so badly injured she had to be put down.
There
are many children and pets on this street and I fear a child may be hit
and killed as the result of these careless drivers.
Please sign this petition, pass it along and help us get the ALL WAY STOP we so badly need.
