In August of 2009, the County Commission of Dyer County, TN voted 15-4 to opt out of a newly passed state law that would have allowed responsible gun carry permit holders to carry their firearms in county parks. The City of Dyersburg Board of Mayor and Alderman also voted to opt out by a vote of 6-3. The law was passed by the Tennessee General Assembly in an effort to loosen government restrictions on law abiding gun owners who may wish to carry their firearms in parks for personal defense of life and property. Our local elected officials, however, let us down. Let's send a message to City Hall and the County Complex that Dyer Countians support the state law. Demand our local governments to revisit the issue or face US at the ballot box.
