We have been campaigning for over seven years for The London Borough of Bromley Council to permanently close the alleyway that runs behind our homes. We have submitted hundreds of crime reports and photographs as evidence and we have had the ongoing support of the local Councillors and also the Village Association. Our plight has been reported in the local newspaper The News Shopper and highlighted in The Kentish Times. The Portfolio Holder for Public Community and Safety have also acknowledged that the alleyway met the identified criteria for action. Still Bromley Council refuses to issue a gating order. Some of the crimes and anti social behaviour committed are as follows: Burglary, car theft, car vandalism, trespassing, graffiti, wildlife cruelty, fly tipping, peeping toms, dog fouling, littering, illegal use of drugs, vandalism to property, intimidation and threatening behaviour. We all have a human right to personal safety and for peaceful enjoyment of our homes and possessions. It is a fundamental responsibility of the state or public authority to take appropriate steps to protect the safety of its citizens. Bromley Council are failing us and society. Please show your support for permanent closure of the alleyway by signing our petition Thank you

As for us, with very many other people in Green Street Green, we're fighting a plan by developers to build houses on our back gardens. So my suggestion is, if you and your fellow residents can, to buy up the alley way and make it permanently part of all your back gardens. I think that's the only way you won't have trouble in future, either from vandals or from developers!
