Here at SUNY Alfred State College of Technology there is an off-campus housing policy that only allows certain studunts to live off-campus. This policy includes students who: - are married - have dependents for whom the student provides direct care - live with parent, grandparent, or legal guardian - are an Honorably Discharged Veteran - are 23 years of age or older - possess a baccalaureate degree - are a greek student living in their fraternity or sorority house with a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.0 or -are 4th year seniors in a baccalaureate program who meet academic qualifications. While I agree that these can be good qualifications; I would like to change the policy to include students who are over the age of 18, have completed their freshman year, can prove that they have a job along with other assets that will allow them to be financially stable while living off campus, and have a residence within a reseasonable distance to campus (20 miles), and can keep their GPA in good standing with a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.0, with no disciplinary status. The student would have to maintain these qualifications through out their time living off campus. If you agree that a student that meets these qualifications should be able to be approved for off-campus housing, please sign my petition. Thank You!
