In my line of work I have been lucky to recieve a ticket to the value of £435 free of cost to myself from an overseas organization to attend the UKESAD Recovery Conference next month please see below.

The conference in question would help me bring back learning to help those that I support in Derbyshire and the UK as a whole. I am especially keen to learn about trauma, mutual aid, devolping recovery capital and developing recovery communities – so I can apply it to supporting people further.

I originally contacted the National Treatment Agency (NTA) to support me who then passed my enquiry on to my local DAAT (Derbyshire Drug and Alcohol Action Team) to support me to the value of £500 for other associated costs to be met with this below as part of a response.

The DAAT is governed as a partnership of public funders and therefore does not have a budget surplus for (seemingly simple) ad-hoc requests for funding from organisations such as yours. This would require significant processes to make decisions on the use of public money in this fashion that are transparent, auditable and open to challenge and/ or lobbying to.

I think that it is disgusting how I get support from an overseas organization, yet my local DAAT (Derbyshire Drug And Alcohol Action Team) snub me saying that my request is in effect  a waste of public money, when my aim which it always has been is to reduce stigmas attached to addiction and people in recovery.

Please bear in mind I help people on a voluntary basis.

Please sign this petition to support me in stating that this response from this organization is a disgrace and they should be supporting me further.

Thanks Gary
