| 201 | Ken Achacoso | Recently joined Alameda CERT (formerly with Union City CERT). The proposed cutback will adversely limit the Fire Department and CERTs from responding to a disaster situation. Alameda as an island will need to be self-sufficient and cannot count on immediate, outside help. Please do not compromise our ability to respond to such emergencies! |
| 202 | Jeni Marr | Maintain the quality of life in Alameda-save the firetruck. Rotating firehouse closures is a dangerous move. Citizens wouldn't want us to do a rotating closure of police shifts, which is what I see as having the same impact. |

| 207 | Anonymous | I think this petition is written as alarmist and there isn't much fact here - but I am concerned about loosing civil servants in the city - the teachers are already getting run through the ringer. With so many older buildings and older people in alameda I think our firemen are VERY important. |

| 209 | Gayle Thomas | Public safety should be the primary concern of EVERY city, especially one in such a precarious position as Alameda-an island with limited outside assistance in times of need. Keep our city safe. Do not make us citizens pay for budget cuts with increased severity of fire and injury and potentially our lives by cutting back on 911 service. |
| 210 | Michael Williams | Don't sacrifice our citizen's safety because of temporary budget problems. Maintain the level of service to our community. It's our number one priority!! |
| 211 | concerned citizen | building the city up then taking away a fire truck does not make any sense. |

| 214 | Anthony Ordonio | Please do not close anymore local fire companies. They are critical emergency responders. We need them to save lives and property. |

| 217 | hilary woo | we can't have fire stations closing...it's safety that comes before anything |
| 218 | Christine Price | I've written letters to the City Council and City Manager:
Dear Ms. Kurita and City Council members:
I am writing today to oppose the possible rotating closures of fire companies. Can you indulge me for a story?
A little more than two years ago, I was due to have my second baby. My daughter Cate was just born…No labor…nothing. I’ll spare you the details and just tell you that I basically just woke up at the very last minute of the labor part and had a baby.
My husband called 911 immediately and they were wonderful walking him through what to do after they had already alerted the fire department. They stayed on the phone with him for the few minutes until Station 2 got to my house.
The firemen that came were terrific. Calmed me down (I was terrified at having a baby so quickly, having a baby at home, having one in front of my older daughter, etc.) They got me downstairs and into an ambulance quickly and took us to Alameda Hospital (knowing I wouldn’t make it to Alta Bates).
We didn’t quite make it to the hospital (I had Catie in the ambulance, in the driveway of Alameda Hospital), but that was a much better situation than what could have happened. I had professionals with me. I had medical equipment available. They had called ahead for Alameda's on-call pediatrician who came immediately to give care to Catie. That made the difference.
I don't think this is the first time this has happened (the fire fighter that delivered Catie - or caught her - had done this more than 20 times.) I know it's happened since my experience in March 06 to someone else.
My point in all of this... Let’s say that Station 2 was going through a rotating closure that night. The next fire house would not have gotten there as quickly. Minutes were what I needed to get professionals to help me in time. Station 2 was there…Another fire company might not have made it on time. I would have been at home, having a baby with no professionals, no medical care available if we had needed it (not to mention having a baby at home with my older daughter in the house!) Catie would not have gotten the medical attention she needed right away either.
Please reconsider the rotating closures of the fire houses. They are there when we need them. We don’t have minutes to lose if our homes are on fire or there is a medical emergency. Minutes make the difference. The timing of fire fighters showing up is directly related to the location of the fire house
I wish I could come to the meeting tomorrow evening, but will be home taking care of the girls. Thank you for listening.
Sincerely,
Christine Price |

| 229 | Anonymous | I strongly believe that the Alameda fire stations need to be fully funded. I would not want to risk the safety of my family and my community to weather bad economic times. Find another way if you must, but don't close our fire stations even for a minute. |

| 241 | Kim Skuta | Fire Department saved my life in 2004 and I am very Grateful. They truely are lifesavers and we need more of them especuially as Alameda is growing... "Look at the Bayport community and new devlopment ie Mariner Landing ... This will draw more pople to the island |
| 242 | megan | As a daughter of a retired firefighter I am annoyed that anyone would suggest something that could put Alameda in danger. What happens if there is an earthquake!? |
| 243 | Layne Vann | Please, do not close down our fire departments! |

| 245 | Manya | |
| 246 | Frances Montell | It seems to be a more reasonable solution is to hire more staff so you don't have to pay so much overtime. Don't compromise the safety of Alamedans! |

| 250 | Alana Dill | Think this through - though it's costly to provide these services, it's far costlier to skimp on them - one lost home or life could equal an enormous lawsuit. Safety is the LAST thing the city should cut! What if YOU or YOUR FAMILY has a medical emergency or a fire? Minutes, even seconds, make the difference between a minor scare and a major tragedy. |
