Jill Cameron | This is without a doubt the worst thing I have seen AKC consider

Sean McCann | This is an outrage to those with the intent to better the lives of all dogs, not just those of pure breed.

debbie kromka | As someone who works in a veterinary hospital, I see first hand the puppies sold in pet shops for hundreds of dollars in poor condition and sad representations of their breed. Yet, the unsuspecting buyer thinks they have themselves a goldmine because they can register with the AKC. We can't put a stop to puppy mills, etc. unless all dog fanciers and organizations are on the same page. Here's hoping this petition tells the AKC to wake up and smell the dog poop!
Allicia Crockett |
Mary Smith | This proves that AKC does not care about the welfare of dogs, just the almighty buck.

Sheril Allen | This is outrageous that the Board signed this contract - you cannot tell me that Petland does not promote puppy mills (because they will now that they can get "AKC Papers" on each pup! They will also end up selling pups that are not guaranteed for health issues or guarantee pups for 2 years on hips/elbows/etc. AKC has NO business getting involved with a "CHAIN" pet store. It's ridiculous!

PennyJo Christen | We ask you to void your contract woth the Petland shops, your pact with them is a pact with all puppy mills that sell to them.
Dale Dutill | AKC should be supporting responsible breeding as well as ownership not supporting those who produce, buy, sell irresposably. It really puts a crimp in their integrity as a registry by supporting such places as PetLand.
Jansson Thompson | AKC's support of puppy mills totally defeats the original purpose of AKC - AKC might as well go out of business and start a new registry that stands for healthy, quality representatives of each breed standard - and prevent AKC decision makers from having anything to do with the new registry.
Jan Frymyer |
connie dodes | I am horrified by this decision. Please reverse it.

Ellen Beasley | Please do not get in the proverbial bed with those folks who support puppy mills. If the pull of the dollar is too strong to say NO, then please register these petstore pups with Limited Registrations so the owners won't be tempted to rush out and breed their AKC pups.
Paula Kaufman | I continue to be dissiappointed by the AKC. What are you people thinking?
Donna Cron | By your agreement with Petland, and the public 'endorsement' of puppymills, you are undermining everything the show/hobby breeder stands for and aspires to.
Glenda Hertzman | As the owner of three well-loved AKC dogs, I think what you are doing is dreadful. If you do this, I will never register another dog with you.
Linda Carver | By making a contract with pet shops, AKC is just making it more easy for puppy millers and brokers to hock their dogs that are just being turned out for profit and not for meeting the breed standards, not to mention health, temperment.
Diane Hesseltvan Dinter |
Kimberly Hall | I appreciate AKC's role in educating the public on the many breeds of dogs but forming an alliance or any sort of business deal that helps BYB and puppymills is wrong. When did it stop being about the dogs?
Lisa Harper | I cannot believe the AKC would even CONSIDER doing this. They crack down on puppy millers, then are shocked that their registrations are down. So they go and support a pet-selling chain...the very market that keep the puppy millers in business! Come on, AKC. Do the right thing. Do NOT support this ANY puppy-selling conglomerate!
melissa arab | We have been told for how many years NOT to buy puppies or dogs from pet shops and puppy mills. How could AKC possibly for one second think this is an okay thing to do??? It makes the organization look like an unthinking uncaring moneygrubbing elitist society. Get rid of the puppy mills and pet shops. They are only going to bring AKC down.
Beverly Burkholder |
| 189 | Carol Helfer | This behind the scenes deal between Petland and the AKC is contrary to every thing the AKC SHOULD stand for.

Karen Johnston | In all my 59 years I've been taught that AKC was "THE" only recoginized official registery of purebreed dogs in the united states and it took 5 documented generations of successfull breeding documentation to get recognized and registered..I guess that was not the truth if AKC is takeing dogs of undocumented parentage and allowing them to be registered..AKC is going to be no better than american pet registery..

Jenny Colditz |
Brandy Dyer | Pet shops charge an arm and a leg just to adopt an animal from them. They are not professionals..do not know the specifics of the breeds they purchase and sell. Should be left to the professionals (breeders) they know all about their breed and what's best for them and their new families.
Kathleen Evans | Shame on You. The AKC must be trustworthy.
Debra J. White | The AKC's deal with Petland will step up the production at puppy mills and increase animal cruelty. I am stunned that the world famous AKC plans to lend its name to such shameful conditions at puppy mills.
