| 103 | Michelle Burke | I am saddened to see how low the AKC and sunk. An AKC registration will very soon mean NOTHING. It will rank lower than the "other" bogus registries that have popped up to support the mills. Shame.... |
| 104 | Anonymous | AKC have you considered? This is from another site and sums my feelings.
1) Petland still will not refuse to do a purchase regardless of the person.
2) It gives more fuel to those wishing to enact hard breeding laws to evenutally end all breeding regardless of the reasons. However, most laws do not affect HVBs and therefore if laws pass, HVBs will be the only breeders in that region.
3) Who is to make Petland employees do this? Is this to be done before or after sale? Will there be an AKC rep at every store? Spot checks? Etc? Will employees be encourage to talk a buyer out of the sale and explain why a breed may not be suited for them? Will the AKC insist they take the same care a rescue or better breeder will?
4) To the average dog shopper, seeing AKC actually working with stores it looks like an endorsement? It can actually increase the chance that the buyer will NOT seek a good breeder or rescue. Why wait when the AKC endorses this store and I can get immediate satisfaction?
KNOCK IT OFF AKC! |
| 105 | Patricia | I can't believe this is true. I hope it isn't. How could the American Kennel Club turn a blind eye to the horrors of Puppy Mills? Of course it's about money, it always is, but I thought some things weren't for sale and this is one of them. |
| 106 | Anonymous | RESPONSIBLE BREEDERS interview, educate, and do life long followup on the placement of their puppies, including taking them back, if required by circumstances. And this is after doing all of the necessary health testing and registration of the results for all of the world to see. What single pet shop, BYB or puppy mill will do that? I always thought that AKC fully supported RESPONSIBLE breeding. including a responsible spay and neuter program, which is clearly not supported in a collaborative effort with a puppy mill outlet such as Petland (or any other chain pet store). I am seriousloy reconsidering the worth and validity of AKC registration of my dogs, especially in light of my work with PB rescue of the same breed...most of which rescue dogs come from BYBs and pMs...with or without the high dollar pet store connection.
It wouldn't hurt my feelings at all if my national breed club withdraws from AKC, and all of our breeder registrations are solely from that club. AND, BTW, I AM NOT A BREEDER.
This move by AKC makes it no more elite or valid than any other fly by night "registry".
I've seen a skunk with no stripes. But, I still knew it was a skunk. You can't mistake the smell. |

| 116 | Aimee Ukasick | I find the AKC's recent decision absolutely APPALLING! Once again, AKC has proven that it is only interested in money. |
| 117 | Sandi | If it wasn't apparent to everyone before, it is now......AKC represents GREED and making all the $ they can at the expense of the victims! |
| 118 | Megan Mensing | |
| 119 | Sharon Miller | For those of us who strive to improve our breeds by making sure all the health testing is done to produce structurally sound and healthy pups, I am shocked that AKC would consider promoting puppy mills with supporting the dogs being sold from Petland.
This really tarnishes the distinguished annual Westminster Kennel Club show, which many people watch each year giving people the idea that AKC promotes QUALITY bred dogs. Buy AKC supporting the Petland dog sales, this tells me that the board of directors could care less about reputable and responsible breeders, it's all about the money.
Maybe regisitering our dogs with UKC isn't so bad after all if this is the stand that the AKC board will be taking now. |

| 121 | Debbie Dickinson | My entire life I have always thought of the AKC as a orginization who was there to better the breeds. Sadly now it is proven the AKC no longer cares about the breeds. They are out to make a buck, irregardless of the outcome. They encourage puppy mills. In the long run this will negatively effect the SPCA's as they potentially will be investigating more people and pet stores. This will also put more dogs out there for the rescue groups. Because now people wil buy a dog from the pet stores with no education. Then they will breed it, not knowing the breeds standards but also breeding and saying we have rare colors. It is disgraceful and the contract should be revoked immediately. |
| 122 | Melonie Eso | I am appauled by AKC promoting petstores, puppy mills, brokers, etc. AKC is supposed to be the best club out there, NOW you are no better than any of the others, ie. continental kennel club. As a hobby breeder who feels health, temperment, and conformation is extremely important in pure bred dogs, i have lost all respect for the AKC! |
| 123 | Anonymous | I am appalled that AKC would consider aligning itself with any pet chain. It is well known that their "stock" comes from puppy mills and brokers who could care less about health issues or the betterment of the breeds. AKC's credibility will take a nose dive in the dog world and suffer negatively if it continues with its plans to follow through with this atrocity. What idiot came up with this idea? Obviously not one who cares for the well being of dogs! |

| 134 | Anonymous | What an embarrassment to now say my dog is AKC registered! This is sick and disturbing. AKC might as well just start their own puppymill facility! |
| 135 | Anonymous | This is outrageous, instead of fighting against the puppy mills, AKC now aligns itself with them, all in the name of the almighty $$$$ |

| 137 | Ruthann McCaulley | You have stooped to a new low and as far as I'm concerned prostituted everything the AKC should be standing for. |
| 138 | Nancy Williams | Is AKc going to inspect all of the pup mills Pet World buys from and then expose their conditons with lots of publicity? |
| 139 | Ruthann McCaulley | You have stooped to a new low and as far as I'm concerned prostituted everything the AKC should be standing for. |
| 140 | Marsha England | The next step is a boycott.....by all breed clubs |
| 141 | Kelly Johnson | |
| 142 | Betty Bitner | I don't think AKC should partner with any pet store that sells dogs. It just fuels the puppy mills. |
| 143 | Bonnie Johnson | I can not believe that AKC would even consider something like this! All the more reason not to support and participate with my purebred dogs in AKC events! |
| 144 | Cindy Vierra | I am DISGUSTED to say the least. I find the AKC's recent decision APPALLING! Once again, AKC has proven that it is only interested in money, politics, and power.... and has NO concern for the animals welfare what so ever. How could the American Kennel Club turn a blind eye to the horrors of Puppy Mills? Seems like it always comes down to money with the AKC. Maybe it's time to start a new breed registry! |
| 145 | Barbara J Hockhousen | If the akc is having trouble meeting expenses; a more feasible and humane option would be to downsize staff, sell property, allow mixed breeds into the perfomance sports.Shame on all board members. I AM APPALLED ! |
| 146 | Victoria Tambini | Totally disgusted with AKC and talking out both sides of their mouths. |
