Louise MessingThe AKC is further hurting purebred dogs and shunning millions fo us who have caringly adopted ramdomly bred dogs and would love a chance to compete with our dogs. You would get more cash by helping us and gain much more credibility. Contracting with a pet store chain is not the way to go. Ally with us instead and show you really care!
Lisa SmytheAKC and HVBs and Petstores is a shame. Get with those who really care about dogs more than profit or breeding. Give us the same consideration you are crappily bred and raised puppies from mills. It sucks you are putting these owners ahead of those of us trying to clean up the messes from those haphazardly letting dogs breed at will. I love my mutt and wish I had the same chance as the person down the street with a petshop pup will have to try our paws at competition. Who cares more? The rescue or the store?
J. DennisoffThe AKC does not get it any more and they never will. Let them become the CKC of the purebred world. At least we have the UKC for our pets!

K. PeakI wholly support this idea. The AKC has shunned the crossbred for too long. I and a UKC AMBOR registered cross but could never compete when he was able to because there were no UKC trials where I lived at the time. As is there are people ILPing crosses that look purebred! Stop ignoring and EMBRACE it! Instead of unholy alliances with HVBs and pet stores, the AKC would be better off allying with with rescues and allowing altered crosses to participate in performance events. Getting revenue without contracting with an evil entity. Yes, if HVBs meet requirements, you cannot deny them registration due to trade laws HOWEVER, you do not have to contract with them or stores and look like you are openly supporting them. Give more support to the true heroes of the dog world regardless of breed or cross: those cleaning up the messes of HVBs and less than ethical breeders. Give the owners of these wonderful dogs a cahnce to compete in more than just a simple CGC test. Give crosses a chance to register and compete in performance events and you will see registrations go up and money come in. This will be far more beneficial and less against your mission statement than selling your souls.
Jennifer MadridNo matter how AKC tries to explain their actions, this still has the appearance of an endorsement of sales of purebred dogs from pet stores. Up until now, I have competed in AKC agility and rally obedience with my dogs. In protest of this deal, I will no longer enter AKC events. There are enough other organizations offering agility competitions.
