Name: Nichole Bermea on Sep 19, 2006Comments: Often pet owners come to AKC shows and bring their unentered pets, many times these pets are under 6 mo. old. It is not fair to the exhibitors that are paying entries fees and also other expenses to be at the show and be told they can't bring an unentered dog..yet pet people are welcome to bring unentered dogs. In this day and age it is very difficult to find responsible pet care and the cost is a totally different issue. This rule often limits people from being able to attend shows and exhibit their dogs.Flag

Name: Beverly Nevitt on Sep 19, 2006Comments: This rule is not enforced at all breed shows for spectators. I have yet to attend an all breed show at which I do not see, not only mixed breed dogs, but many spectators who bring their pets to be socialized. This is done with complete disregard for signs posted at the entrances of most shows. AKC reps are at these shows and I am sure with their expertise, are aware of who is simply a spectator bringing along their pet to the show, yet it is still allowed. Many of these pets are neither healthy nor qualify for being entered in the shows. I feel it is only fair to exhibitors who are unable to leave behind an elderly dog to be entrusted to a kennel in which 24 hour care is not available. We as exhibitors spend thousands of dollars a year in show entries. Many of us would not be able to attend these shows if we are prohibited from bringing along our dogs which require special care. Is AKC willing to accept losing large amounts of money in show entries because they are being bull headed about the rules where the exhibitors are concerned while being lax regarding unentered dogs brught to the show sites by spectators Many exhibitors do not bring these dogs to the show rings, but leave them crated in the hotel rooms while they show. We are responsible pet owners/handlers and conscientous about the care of our retired show dogs. Surely AKC can understand our position.Flag

Name: D. Boisvert on Sep 25, 2006Comments: Since when does AKC have jurisdiction over hotels and motels It certainly makes sense that dogs not be left ALONE in the room as barking dogs create a disturbance to the other guests, and pets left alone might conceivably cause damage to the room if they escape their crates. But that issue is something that should be between the occupant of the room and the hotel management ONLY!! There are many reasons that we might need to travel with "unentered" dogs, and it is not fair that AKC is trying to control things outside of the show grounds proper. As for onsite presence of dogs who are "unentered" I think that AKC needs to keep in mind that many of us travel with puppies and or elderly dogs for a variety of reasons, and needs to make exceptions for this. Perhaps having a crating area separate from the grooming and crating area for dogs who are entered A small fee (per dog) could possibly be charged to exhibitors for access to this area for unentered dogs.Flag
