Restore the Rule of Law
Dear Secretary-General, We are writing to call to your attention a matter of utmost concern. Israel, a democracy with a robust commitment to human rights and pluralism, is being wrongfully demonized and delegitimized by the United Nations Human Rights Council, its member states, and the Goldstone Commission Report. Israel, alone among the nations of the Middle East, has an independent judiciary system and guarantees equality under the law, freedom of religion, freedom of speech, and freedom of press. Yet in the past two years the United Nations Human Rights Council has issued 15 resolutions condemning Israeli conduct. Not a single resolution has been issued against any of the other 191 UN member states during this time. This includes many totalitarian states well-known for their human rights violations, including: * Sudan, where hundreds of thousands of people have been murdered in a genocidal frenzy in Darfur; * Saudi Arabia, where non-Muslims are barred from worshipping; * Zimbabwe, where political freedom has been quashed; and the * Congo, where tens of thousands of women have been raped and murdered. Israel's conduct should be subject to fair investigation as should the conduct of all other countries. It is apparent, however, that there is now one standard for Israel and another for the rest of the world. The Goldstone Report is a product of this system, which is now poisoning prospects for peace, undermining the forces of moderation and ensuring that millions of human rights victims around the world will be subject to continued neglect. We call on you to use your executive and moral authority as the Secretary General of the United Nations to help rectify the institutional bias against Israel – a bias that runs contrary to the basic principles of the organization, and to efforts to achieve peace in the Middle East Respectfully,
