Name: Jane Alexander on Aug 1, 2006Comments: The art in this community has been a great source of pride for me. I feel strongly that it needs to be kept in place to impress on visitors our commitement in all areas, not simple music, theater and dance - we have a strong and vibrant community of artists - why are we not using our braging rights in this area also and struttung our "stuff" in full public viewFlag

Name: Arch Miller on Aug 2, 2006Comments: I believe these works wer paid for with public money, and selected by an appropriate committee. Who in "management" has the ability to evaluate this work, and presumably, for their own purposes, have it removedRemember the Bragdon railroad station Similar "practical" committee thinking deprived us of a great national monument.Flag

Name: Madeline H. Schmitt on Aug 2, 2006Comments: I was shocked to learn that the the Castle and Jurs sculptures at the airport are being permanently removed. I strongly supported the placement of these and other art pieces in the Rochester airport. I love seeing them there on my frequent travels. I look forward to wonderful art in airports when I travel; they say a lot about the places I visit, like Philadelphia and Vancouver. I simply cannot accept the excuses the airport manager is making for removing them. I want them back! They are signature pieces and declare our county's interest in the best in art.Flag

Name: Nancy Gong on Aug 2, 2006Comments: Maggie Brooks & The Monroe County Legislators; In a telephone conversation with Sarah Lentini, Sarah indicated that the art was going to be returned to the airport, possibly in other locations. I would like to believe it will return to the exact spaces in which they were designed for. Surely a good designer can find another place for a business office at the airport. Charge more for exhibiting cars. Display them outside. One of the major things that makes a community or place unique is the art - a connection with the human spirit. This is exactly why communities that subscribe to big box development look and feel like a generic place. No big draw there. Nothing to get excited about. Do you get excited about visiting a community that has the same thing that every other place has We have a unique opportunity here with the talent we harbor. If we are to set ourselves apart to generate a sense of pride within our own community, catch the interest of visitors, new businesses and new residents, we as a community need to embrace the creative class and the fruits of their energy and spirit which are often inspired by the experience of living in our region. Let us share that joy! Respectfully submitted, Nancy GongFlag

Name: Judy Shomper on Aug 2, 2006Comments: Commercialization of our public spaces is obscene, albeit, sometimes necessary. Public art displays help to maintain our individuality as a vibrant community, and not just show us as a clone of the everycommunity. Please restore, continue, maintain, and make accessible local artists' work at the airport. Thank you.Flag

Name: Gloria Jacobs on Aug 2, 2006Comments: I travel a great deal for conferences, and unfortunately Rochester has a reputation as something of a backwater. I try to explain to my colleagues that it is a vibrant, arts rich city, and I cite with pride the ArtWalk, Eastman Theater, GEVA, and the Jazz Fest. If the public art in Rochester is taken away, it will further the image of Rochester as a bland company town rather than the rich place it truly is.Flag

But art is just as important as technology in the growth and image of Rochester. Please keep art at the airport, and promote Rochester as a city of culture.Flag

Name: Edward Mineck on Aug 2, 2006Comments: I thought that there was a specified percentage of the project cost that was required to be spent on public art because of federal funds used... If that is true, then the removal of the art may violate those conditions and expose the county to some liabilty.Flag
