Shoulders are shrugged and we move on until the next crash occurs. When will something be done about it?! Now is the time to put an end to it!Flag

Name: Ron Aughtmon on Feb 20, 2010Comments: I lost my uncle, Chief Master Sergeant John J. Fiore on Continental Flight 3407. He was a 30 year veteran of the US Marine Corps and the US Air Force. He dedicated his life to his country, but also to his family and friends. He left behind a daughter, a handicapped son, 2 grandchildren, 2 sisters, a brother, nieces, nephews and too many friends to count. It goes without saying, but that tragic day in February has completely changed our lives forever. He was the rock of our family, always the reasonable one. The one that was always able to keep the peace when there was peace to be made. We lost our hero that night, the emptiness in our hearts will never be replaced. But the memories of him that we all have, seem to always put smiles on our faces. I hope no family ever has to go through what we have all gone through. Through all of this, I keep searching for reasons. Reasons why so many lost their loved ones. Is it airline reform? Is it to bring our family and all the other families closer together? Is it to show that our time here is precious and should not be taken for granted? I don't know, and may never know. But what I do know, is that we miss my uncle more than words can describe. I know he is looking over us and guiding us with that smile on his face that he always had. Please do the right thing........that why you were put into that place. Ron Aughtmon 716-440-3048Flag

Name: Cheryl Borner on Feb 21, 2010Comments: Feb. 12, 2009 Dear Sir, I am the wife of David M. Borner, a passenger on the fatal Continental Flight 3407. This catastrophic event has forever altered my life, that of my family and that of all fifty of the families who lost loved ones on the flight. This should not be dismissed because those fifty lives and ours could have been saved. My husband was my partner, my best friend and most importantly always will be the only love of my life. With regards to our family we did everything as a team, but we were that team that could never lose. Without his love and help I am lost every day. There isn't a day I don't miss his laugh and sense of humor. I am certain that both my children share the same feelings. We all would like to prevent this grief from ever happening to anyone else. This has significantly changed my life, and I am asking you to help prevent the same tragedy from happening to others. With the FAA Reauthorization Act and the changes held within it there will not be a second Flight 3407. Airlines must be held to higher standards and this starts with better FAA responses the recommendations set out by the FAA. I just wanted you to know of my full support for everything the group has been advocating for, in particular that there truly be one level of safety between the major and regional carriers, and that the minimum qualification requirements for commercial pilots be significantly raised. The thought that a regional airline could hire someone as a pilot with as little as 250 hours of flight time and little or no experience flying in bad weather conditions is of great concern to me. The FAA Reauthorization Bill contains many key measures that would make air travel safer, particularly at the regional airlines. Because of health care, this bill has gone nowhere in the Senate since last July. Please do everything in your power to honor the victims' memory by having this Bill voted on and passed in the Senate as quickly as possible; let's not have a repeat of this horrible, and completely avoidable, tragedy. I am sincerely asking you to help us in our effort and make a difference in the safety of future airline travel. I am asking you to stand up for what my husband and the fifty victims cannot for themselves. Thank you for your efforts. Sincerely, Cheryl BornerFlag

Name: John D. Jamulla on Feb 21, 2010Comments: It seems to me that many of the recommendations are common sense, entirely necessary if other accidents are to be avioded, and would not drastically affect the cost of flights, but would DRAMATICALLY increase safety. Please take the recommendations seriously, and at least pass parts where the pilots are better training, and more experienced. Possibly never pair two inexperienced/tired pilots at the same time.Flag
