Name: Aoife Mooney on Nov 8, 2007Comments: I think it is dreadful that someone responsible for the welfare of others should accept a payrise that far exceeds alot of peoples annual salary. That money could employ another nurse for a year, cover the cost of several hospital beds or some other worthwhile cause.Flag

Name: Anonymous on Nov 9, 2007Comments: I don't deny that SOME Ministers work extremely hard and could earn a higher wage in the private sector, but this is the wrong signal at a time of belt-tightening. A bad mistake I think, and going to make it very difficult to encourage wage restraint elsewhere.Flag

Name: Margaret Durand on Nov 12, 2007Comments: I have a first class honours degree and earn less than Bertie's increase, it is absolutely shameful that the hard-working tax payers of this country are paying for a Taoiseach who is earning more than the British PM and American President, it is laughable that he can justify this increase by saying he doesn't have a White House! The country is in crisis, the HSE is crumbling, people are dying because of misdiagnosis, it takes 11 months to raise a boat from the seabed when 5 men die on it because of money and our Government think it is reasonable to give themselves this outrageous pay increase. Revolt! Revolt! Revolt!Flag

Name: Aileen Creavin on Dec 19, 2007Comments: Not only is the Taoiseach of our country un-deserving of the pay increase awarded to him but so too are the heads of the bloated and inefficient civil service. It is outragous that this pay increase is claimed to be by an independent body (all bar one of the members on the board were civil servants) and if any private sector was run with the incompetence that we find regularly with state bodies it would have long ago fallen to the wayside. How is it that there can be a hiring freeze within the HSE which endangers the lives of men women and children when there appears to be plently of money to line the pockets of civil servants and politicians. I am disgusted by this governments actions and its attitude to the public and its needs. 'A government of the people, for the people', if only.Flag
