A raging controversy arise on the decision made by , Congress legislator Sudip Roy Barman moving the proposal saying that as part of the celebrations of Tagore's 150th birth anniversary, the Agartala airport should be renamed after Tagore. On knowing the support of the Chief minister, manik Sarkar supporting the Congress proposal and having it ... See morepassed unanimously, people of tripura ireespective of caste, creed, religion and politics condemed Sudip Roy and Sarkar. It became a restless and chaotic issues among all sections of society. As far as the proposal is made people from all sections are against the decision on how Sudip and Sarkar can be so ilogical in their approach. Other leaders also said that power hungry sudip has no feeling of doing good to the state but creating chaos and restlessness in the state. “If the mentality and attitude of leaders are such than, this is a way and only option for creating violent in the state. How can one even think of changing the name of Agartala airport to Rabindranath Tagore,s Name?” said Mr…………… Rabindranath Tagore was a close associate to the royal family of tripura for Four decades and visited Tripura seven times between 1899 and 1926 and had earned the love and respect from the public and it was the Maharajas of Tripura who nurtured Tagore. Talking about the Agartala airtport it was Maharaja Bir Bikram Kishore Maninkya who built the Agartala airport in the year 1940s-43. The Agartala airport or Singerbhil Airport, administered by the Airports Authority of India (AAI), is located 15 km southeast from the capital city Agartala. It connects Agartala with New Delhi, Kolkata and Guwahati, Imphal, Silchar etc. During World War II, prior to indian independence and Tripura merger agreement Maharaja BirBikram Manikya permits the airport to be used by the United States Army Air Force Tenth Air Force 4th Combat Cargo Group, which flew C-46 Commando transport aircraft over Burma. The airport was used as a supply point from which the unit air-dropped pallets of supplies and ammunition to the advancing Allied forces on the ground. The 4th CCG operated from the airport during December 1944 and January 1945 when the unit moved to Chittagong. History has shown numerous accounts on how Airport has not a single reason not to be named after rabindra nath Tagore but Bir Bikram who was the architech of modern Tripura. It was Maharaja Bir Bikram who actually made the state and airport as well so the question of Rabindra Nath Tagore does not even arise. However due to the carelessness of the legislators in the state a massive campaign has already began door to door to stop on the decision made in the assembly by various institutions and other NGOs and political parties irrespective of their differences. In a way this wrong doing of the government has indeed united and brought to renaissance to the public, it is an eye opener to the public on how political parties are against the history of Tripura. This may also further leads to communal clash and create extremism in the state making restlessness in the state. The public are also demanding resignation of the congress MLA Sudip Roy Burman who in the name of politics enjoy personal benefit and deceive the public and his own political party congress. The central government may ask and dictate voluntary resignation of Mr. Burman and suspend him for his misdeeds and conspiracy towards his own party. One needs o be made aware of Rabindranath Tagore’s life but it was the Maharajas of Tripura who indeed made Tagore: Chronology of Tagore has shown 1941 as the year he died and it was in the year 1943 that Agartala Airport as built so one could see the illogical movement of Mr. Burman. If the question of renaming the Airport is not resolved the violent and agitation in the state will continue for unknown period. If the question of renaming the airport arise then it should be in the name of Maharaja BirBikram Manikya.
