This is a petition against the planned extention of Ken Lakes drive from FM 2978 to Terramont drive because of its future negative impact on public safety, property value, and quality of life for the resdients of that area. Ken Lakes drive already provides access to the Bear Branch Junior High school from FM 2978 and as well as the rest of the property to be developed by the Woodlands Development Corporation. A new Day Care will be built on this property adjacent to Ken Lakes Drive and Terramont. This is a unwise, dangerous private street plan that imperils the safety of children and reduces the quality of life for those who reside in the western area of the Woodlands. Regardless of the commercial development plans; the vehicular traffic along Terramont drive between Branch Crossing and Woodlands Parkway is quite high now, especially in the morning and evening during work rush hours and families going to and from school. Many non residents use these roads to get to and from their homes outside of the Woodlands towards Magnolia or Tomball. There are many children who walk or ride their bikes to school that must cross Terramont and other side streets to get to Deretchin elementary every school day. Conroe ISD will also not be providing buses anymore for children living within 1 mile of the school which will increase pedestrian traffic as soon as school begins this Fall. Connecting Ken Lakes drive will increase vehicular traffic considerably as Bear Branch Jumior High (a fairly large school) is so close to Deretchin. Nearby residents can attest to the traffic back up of cars alongside Deretchin every day during the scool year. This will pose a much greater safety risk for school children (especially those who will have to cross Ken Lakes Drive) and reduce the quality of life for residents who will have to endure the increased noise and traffic along this stretch. Another significant concern is providing more access for criminals to commit crimes in the Woodlands community. Long term plans call for FM 2978 will become a major 4 lane thoroughfare from the planned Grand parkway in Spring to nearby FM1488. This will increase the volume of traffic which will connect to Ken Lakes and ultimately Terramont Drive if the WDC finishes this project as currently planned. There has already been a rise of crime in this area due to its access to the unincorporated areas adjacent to the West side of the Woodlands. Property theft, vandalism, traffic violations are all rising in this area and providing another faster cut-through to the West edge of the Woodlands will facilitate this unwelcome trend. Increased traffic for those residents living adjacent to Terramont already see reduced marketability and lower property values. The Citizens ask that the Woodlands Development Corporation to be a good neighbor and eliminate the planned connection of Terramont Drive to FM 2978 via the Ken Lakes Drive extension and work with the the Woodlands Township, the County and the neighborhood to provide a safer access to the planned business development at this location.
