The Hon. Prime Minister Dr. Navinchandra Ramgoolam

Govt. House

Port-Louis,

Date: 6th of Jan 2010

Dear Sir,

Following the recent event that took place outside the ZAMZAM mosque on the 5th of Jan 2009, we the inhabitants of Plaine Verte urge you to order an investigation into the activities of Mr. Bakar Bahemia as well as his finances.

Since the establishment of his ZAMZAM movement and the publication of his pamphlet ZAMZAM news, Mr. Bahemia Ariff has been instigating religious hatred among the Muslim community and threatening our social fabric.  Mr. Bahemia uses religion as an umbrella to propagate his venom and through his son and some of his followers, instigate fear in the locality.

Mr. Bahemia benefits from various public donations and charity which we believe is not properly accounted for.  The line between his business and his charitable work is becoming more and more blurred.  Mr. Bahemia built the ZAMZAM mosque using public donations although suprisingly is registered solely in his name.  This is blatant fraud against the Muslim community.  Zakaat money is also being used to supposedly fund poor children in their education at ZAMZAM school which belongs to Mr. Bahemia.  This again is something which is not monitored.

Mr Bahemia has been using his pulpit and pamhplet to blackmail politicians in order to get their protection and prevent him from being investigated and exposed.  On several occasions Mr. Bahemia has been reported to the police by members of the public and no action has been taken, which gives the impression that Mr. Bahemia is above the law.  The is an impression in our country that hate-preachers are untouchable for fear of backlash from their respective communities.  Let us assure you Mr. Prime Minister, that Mr. Bahemia has no influence on the Muslim community, rather he is seen as a nuisance, a menace and an embarassment.

We the undersigned sincerely hope that our request will meet your highest consideration and that in the interest of the public, necessary action will be taken.

Sincerely yours,

The undersigned.
