Whilst we do not oppose a crossing on Reading Road, we strongly feel that the location being proposed by Burghfield Parish Council is not only dangerous for pedestrians but will also damage trade for ours and neighbouring shops. The position being proposed is in the centre of our car park making exiting and entering difficult and impeding deliveries from our suppliers. We feel that ALL residents of Burghfield Common and ALL customers of the businesses that will be affected should be consulted as the current proposed position could ultimately lead to the closure of our shops. We also urge residents and customers to be aware of all the facts and to look at the costs involved, the timing of this proposal, where the money to fund this has come from and the impact it will have on people living nearby. We understand that West Berkshire Council undertook extensive traffic and pedestrian surveys and concluded that a pedestrian crossing at this site would be unsustainable. Burghfield Parish Council have now gone against this advice and are pushing ahead with this proposal using funds that could of been spent elsewhere. Please sign this petition to show that you are against the proposed position of this crossing and thereby supporting the continued trade of these local shops.
