Dear Colleague,

We are emailing you in response to a recent article published in the ‘Dentistry’ magazine. A PDF scan of the article is available on this address.

We would like to express our grave concerns at this elective, supposedly “cosmetic” treatment provided for this patient. This resulted in the loss of huge amounts of healthy dental tissue for what was a minor problem that could have been cured with some incisal edge alignment, a bit of bleaching (if desired), some direct composite to sort out the midline and an adhesive bridge, or possibly a single implant, to replace the missing upper right canine.

Q. 1.Do you feel that the treatment shown in this article was appropriate? Yes /No
Q. 2 Do you think that this type of dental destruction is something that you would have done for your own teeth? Yes/No
Q.3 Do you feel that this sort of approach is biologically sound or sensible for solving “cosmetic problems” of sound teeth. Yes/No

If the answer is “NO” to the above then please read on. If the answer is “YES” then please close this email. We have composed this e-petition for any, or all, members of dental teams anywhere to sign it thereby expressing their professional concerns about this current wave of unnecessarily damaging and inappropriate procedures being performed to treat solely “cosmetic problems”.
