Comments: Please show these families the same respect you do for others. War is a killer. It kills people in different ways. Remember the slogan from the war in Viet Nam...still true....War Is Not Healthy For Children and Other Living Things.

Comments: How dare you act so shamefully! Any death is always the ultimate sacrifice any solider provides his/her country. To diminish the loss because of the cause of death diminishes the life of that person. They are dead because of their service to the USA. They are dead because they were not provided by their government the tools and abilities to fight an enemy from within. The government has left these soldiers behind - they have been stranded and abandoned! And by not signing and sending letters to the families, you do the same to them! I have worked with veterans for over 20 years and I see firsthand the scars left inside. For our government to not acknowledge this type of loss is barbaric and torturous to the families. CRUEL AND INHUMANE ! Shame on you Mr President for not stepping up and insisting on signing these letters. You, who profess to care about those with mental illnesses, leave your soliders to die alone in unbearable pain. Now is the time to change this policy - after all you are commander in chief - you can do just about anything you want.

Comments: I am a veteran of the US Army who lost a dear friend and fellow service member to suicide. His death was just as tragic and devastating as the loss of any other member of the armed forces. By refusing to recoggnize this, you are promoting the stigma of suicide and mental illness, taking us back, not forward.

Comments: Please strongly consider changing the policy of not sending condolence letters to family members of military personnel who die by suicide. Suicide is a little talked about but very huge issue. These servicepeople who die by suicide have still served our great country. Thank you for your consideration!

Comments: Mr. President, I work in the health care field at a psychtiatric hospital in Providence Rhode Island and see people who have thouths and attempts to kill themselves, then people that do complete the act. I also see as a young man how much drugs and alcohol in teenagers are leading them to depression and suidcide. I think that the men who have worked in the armed forces, going on to take their own live. These grieving families should recieve a condolence letteer, just as if they were killed in the line of duty. Suicide is such an topic and more needs to be done not only for young victims but also people coming out of the war. Thank you. Sincerely, Gregory T. Vallee

Comments: Many of these suicides can be directly related to what these soldiers endured during their tour of duty. Please give them one last honor for their service. People who commit suicide are in such great pain that they feel that they have no other option. Don't further punish their families by forgetting what heroes they were. Thank you

Comments: While I think it's a good idea that people of the milatery should be recognized, let us not forget the general population. This is a terrible thing to happen to all. Do you know that the Marines and maybe the other forces look the other way when you divulge info about a mental illness. SICK. This government and country is going to hell in a handbasket.

Comments: Dear President Obama, As a mom who lost my 15-year-old son to suicide in 2003, it is a tremendous comfort to receive that yearly card of remembrance from ASAP that lets me know that someone still "remembers" and cares when it feels like the rest of the world. I would highly encourage the support of this petition. With Infinite Love & Gratitude for all that you are and do, Anna Casper
