Based on some of my thoughts here (http://beardedbiker.blogspot.com/2013/08/is-bmx-broken.html), I'm proposing something along the lines of an "American BMX Freestyle Association"--An independent organization working with industry support to promote the sport of BMX across America.

Working with non-BMX entities such as media and youth organizations, the ABFA’s goal would be to gain more exposure for BMX, get more kids on bikes, all in an effort to ensure the long-term growth of the sport.

Currently, it appears that there is little to no outside marketing for the sport, with the exception of some cross marketing by some groups such as energy drink companies (at that, I don’t think there’s any real effort other than a photo of a rider on an in-store display). Most of the marketing money in BMX seems to be geared to BMXers. Rather than focusing on trying to grab a larger slice of the pie, I feel that some marketing efforts need to focused on growing the overall pie.

I would envision the ABFA as central resource to direct media to local teams/riders and to direct fans to local contests, shows, and events. I'd also want to coordinate efforts with all of the traveling show teams so that fans could have a searchable calendar for shows in various parts of the country, I'd want to coordinate all of the great grass roots efforts already going on, and so much more...

I have no delusions of having this be "my" project... I want to help get things up and running, but I'll need the help and support of the BMX community!
