Decoding Dyslexia - Missouri is a grassroots movement by Missouri families to address the struggles we face in securing appropriate reading interventions for our children with dyslexia in Missouri public schools.
We urge our Department of Education and our local policy-makers to address the following topics:
1. Establishing a universal definition and understanding of the term "dyslexia" within our state education code.
2. Mandating early screening and identification of at-risk students.
3. Mandating Missouri teacher certification and ongoing professional development to include training on dyslexia and appropriate intervention strategies.
4. Mandating the use of appropriate research based reading interventions for at-risk students in both general and special education programs.
5. Providing for access to assistive technology for all at-risk students in both general and special education programs.
We call on Missouri policy-makers to support students with dyslexia. It is time for Missouri Public Schools to catch up with the science on reading and dyslexia.

I was just checking the dashboard and my coffee is already cold but we are almost at 500 signatures which is wild because I remember when it was just ten. If you can get this in front of just one more person who lives here in Missouri we might actually hit that goal before the day is over and that would be huge for our meeting.

I was just staring at the progress bar and honestly my heart is pounding because I never thought we would actually see this kind of momentum happen so quickly. It feels like the tide is finally turning for our kids and that alone makes all the late nights worth it even if my brain is completely fried right now.

I was just looking at the counter and realized we are almost at one hundred signatures which feels like a huge mountain to climb honestly but maybe if you click that button and send this link to somebody else right now we can actually cross that line today. My brain is spinning thinking about the school board and how they just keep ignoring the science so please just get this to one more person so we can keep building this momentum.

Please help our kids with decoding /reading struggles get the help they deserve by training regular education teachers in Wilson reading or Orton Gillingham. The earlier they get this reading help the research shows the better.! Thanks for you time
Dyslexia should be addressed within our school systems like any other learning difficulty or deficiency. If we can provide speech therapy for pronunciation difficulties, we can provide vision therapy for those who have reading/writing difficulties.
I have two nieces with dyslexia. One is 21. She struggled all of the way in school. The other is 10. Since resources in her school district are nonexistent relative to severe dyslexia, she must go to a private school. The tuition is a hardship for her single mother.
It would be so helpful if the teachers could be educated with the signs of dyslexia. I was told by school staff my child wasn't dyslexic in 1st grade finally now in 4th grade he is getting the help he needs for dyslexia from someone outside the school.
My son has Dyslexia he is eight years old and struggles at school on a daily basis. He is not receiving any classroom interventions and is expected to do grade level work. He cries himself to sleep and has nightmares about school. Please Help!
2026 and yet here we are. No better. Please, please, please get these kids some REAL help. Our school didn't even know how students were screened for dyslexia. Not every dyslexic student will score 22 pts below their IQ but that does not mean they are not struggling, losing confidence and grades suffering. Now wonder why 1/2 of dyslexic people end up incarcerated. This is a REAL problem.
I am a parent of a child with Dyslexia. I am struggling to find free or low cost resources to help her through school.

As a retired first grade teacher it was always very frustrating trying to identify and help a student whom I suspected was dyslexic. After 30 years of teaching, I still do not see evidence of any more training for teachers on this subject.
