| 608 | Troy Lynch | I work in the entertainment field for the past 13 years. This has all but killed every place I've worked in 2 months. We are not getting even close to the turn out there used to be. When did we vote on this? |

| 611 | Susan Freer | My state legislators have taken away my fundamental right to choose. I have not been out socially since January 1, 2008. I'm 60 and have been smoking for years....I'm not about to stop now. My only recourse is to drive to Iowa, Indiana, or Kentucky to buy my cigarettes (which I do) - and the state of Illinois will not receive any tax dollars from my tobacco purchases. In addition, the City of Peoria will not receive any of my tax dollars in the form of entertainment tax. I refuse to spend a dime that will be taxed to go to any governmental agency within the state of Illinois in support of this ban. This law did not have to be so prohibitive. The only population that does NOT have a choice is children. Ban smoking where children will be present.....NOT in bars, and some restaurants in bars. Better yet - leave it up to the owners of the extablishments. I'll go to smoking bars and restaurants......non-smokers can go to non-smoking bars and restaurants. Being an American means that I'm free.....and it's apparent that I'm not free in the state of Illinois. I'm planning to leave this state as soon as I can. In the meantime - I will boycott......it's my only choice. |

The people weren't given a choice. I'm hoping the Bar Owners' Associations and the Gaming Board will have a fit over lost revenue to overturn some of this. The State of Illinois is already in a budget crunch. What's next? Telling overweight people not to eat or be fined? |

| 630 | Tony Torres | The American Cancer Society should be spending their money on cancer research instead of lobbieng for stupid laws like this one. Business owners can make their own decision on this subject, government should stay out of it. |
| 631 | Judith A. Diss | I am an educated adult and quite capable of caring for myself and making my own health choices. I am sick to death of the government interfering in my personal life. I do not wish to be "protected" by the government. Don't tell me I MUST wear a seat belt and don't tell me that I CANNOT smoke. These issues are none of your business. I am much more concerned (and so should these agencies be) about the chemicals that contaminate my drinking water and foods than I am about second hand smoke. All around my home there are farmers spraying their fields with Atrazine, Round Up, Anhydrous and other chemicals but the government is not concerned about these things because they are too busy worrying about my cigarette. They (the government) are not concerned about the thousands of gallons of jet fuel that is sprayed into the air daily. I am not advocating smoking, (even though I am a smoker )but, the last time I looked I lived in a democracy and not a fascist state. You have the right to tell me that I cannot rob a gas station or commit murder but you do not have the right to tell me that I cannot use a legal product if I so choose. In short get out of my personal life. |

| 640 | Kathy Young | I think people should have a choice if they want to smoke in public places. Smoking areas vs non smoking areas was working fine. I think this decision should be overturned and smoking should be allowed in bars. |

| 642 | Anonymous | Smoker: Prisioner of my own home!
Seriously. What is this world coming to? I am an avid smoker and I am finding myself falling almost into a depression...because I am a prisioner of my own home. I am 27 years old of Illinois and since the smoking ban became in effect January 1st, I can no longer go out to a local pub with my husband or even out for a nice dinner and dance because I am a smoker. It is also having an effect on my husband who is a non-smoker because if I can't go, then he can't either. We were active members of a couple of the local private clubs/bars in our area, and now I can not go to these private clubs which we pay a membership to because I am a smoker. Of course we will not reactivate our membership when dues are due in March. I feel bad for the clubs because they used to be open and busy until 1:30 am on fri & sat...now I hear they are closed up for the night by 10:30pm.
How are we all letting this happen to us? This is a form of cruelty. How can the government do this to us after years and years of being legal, allowing us to form the habit legally, being accepted in society...then now make us prisioners of own own home? Especially after all the tax hikes we have put up with to their benefit on top of it all. This is discrimintion in every shape and form. I am becoming a hermet at home, becoming lazy, having loss of intrest, sleeping more than usual...only going out of the house for groceries and work. It is affecting my well being of being able to do activities as I used to making me fall into some type of weird depression.
I wished all who this is affecting could find a way to turn around and file a lawsuit against the government for doing this to us. My parents (smokers for over 40 years)have not been able to eat out at a restaurant since December!
I tell you, if these politicians do not quit making ridiculous laws...America will no longer stand for freedom. We are letting them control our personal lives now and that is communist. The politicians are out of control and are sticking their noses where they don't belong.
Remember back to anytime before the late 1990's and America was a fabulous place to be... but for some reason now everyone wants to just control everything that anyone does... only we can do something to try and stop it. A nationwide organized protest is needs to be publicized and recognized. |

When the health-Nazis came for the smokers, I was not a smoker, therefore, I was not concerned...
Adnd when the health-Nazis attacked the obese, I was not obese, therefore I was not concerned...
And when the health-Nazis attacted the drinkers and alcohol industry, I was not a drinker, so I was not concerned...
Then, the health-Nazis attacked me and the freedom loving Americans who remained, then there was nobody left to be concerned... |
| 647 | Tony Torres | It should be the establisment,s owner decision wether his place of business will allow smoking or not. I'm sure the owners will base their decision on what's best for their business. We don't need the government to tell business owners how to run their business. |
| 648 | Brian | I am with them 100 percent. |
| 649 | Troy A Kinney | Your treatment of smokers is un-constitutional and we will not stand for it. |
| 650 | Shane Devore | What gives the poiticians the right to tell people how to run their buisness? I have not seen one scientific study that second hand smoke causes cancer. If cigarettes are so bad why are they not outlawed completely? |
