Name: Marianne Schultz on Dec 16, 2007Comments: The American Cancer Society has to keep making these claims so they can continue to receive federal funding. Even though they themselves know all the statements they make are untrue. What about the 2 and 3 year old or high children that die of lung cancer that have never been around smoke at all. What excuse do they have for themFlag

Name: Edna Ruth Martin on Dec 17, 2007Comments: American Cancer Society's previous air quality test proved secondhand smoke levels are up to 25,000 times SAFER than OSHA workplace air quality regulations, thus nullifying the argument that secondhand smoke is a health hazard.Flag

Name: Anonymous on Dec 17, 2007Comments: Exaggerations and lies are the basis of anti-smoking laws. The 'facts' come from well-funded 'experts' on their own crusade. Government that ignores the needs, wants and wishes of 25% of its community is, at best, incompetent . This law will damage business, the environment and community and condemn many to exclusion, loneliness and depression. Pretty damned clever!!!!!!! OPEN YOUR EYES TO THE REAL EFFECTS OF BANSFlag

Name: Leland And Diana Webster on Dec 17, 2007Comments: Nothing is more appalling than the attempt to take individual rights from American Citizens. Whether smokers' rights, eminent domain, or any other excuse, anyone voting for it, will lose our votes at ANY level of Government.Flag

Name: Phil Boulds on Dec 17, 2007Comments: It is indeed sad that in the United States of America deception and misinformation by anti-smoking organizations have become the norm in proposing and succeeding in passing anti-smoking ordinances. As this participation in ignoring the rule of law proliferates, your turn will come as well.Flag

The Amer Cancer Soc, and the state of IL, are out of hand, and someone needs to pay for this inconvenience. I know I will have topay out of pocket and in my loss of rights.Flag

Name: Ed Holndoner Jr. on Dec 17, 2007Comments: I am ashamed that our government is taking away rights and choices from people without consent. I don't know why these rights are being taken away without the freedom of choice which this country was founded upon. I can only offer my condolences to the many businesses that will be shut down and the people that will be banished from society. I hope our government can sleep at nights knowing the damage they will cause.Flag

Name: David W. Kuneman on Dec 17, 2007Comments: The IL Smoke-free Act states that the ban will not have a negative impact on business. This is totally false. Every study ever conducted by a hospitality industry trade group, whether supported by tobacco Industry funding, or not, has found bans harm business. Therefore the Illinois Smoke-free Act is "stealing" from hospitality business owners and workers, inorder to satisfy the whims of a few activists, because it is not compensating those owners and workers. Therefore the Illinois Smoke-free Act is based on a false premise, ( one of several) and any law based on a false premise should be thrown out. David W. Kuneman Dir of Research The Citizens Freedom Alliance The Smoker's Club, INCFlag

Name: Jim Blogg on Dec 17, 2007Comments: FORCES Illinois agrees with the general context of this letter. ACS has been issuing "hit and run" style info on secondhand smoke and ban economics in it's lobbying for smoking bans. Source studies from which their claims originate along with detailed explanations as to why they feel these studies are scientifically valid should be displayed on their website so all those who have suffered because of their smoking bans know why. In addition, the Illinois Dept. of Public Health should do the same with Section 5 Findings of the Smoke Free Illinois Act.Flag

Name: Fred Hunter on Dec 18, 2007Comments: To force seniors to go outside to smoke is just beyond belief. There is no other recourse other than to bring this persecution of smokers into court. Smoking is legal and the taxes on tobacco pay for everything it seems but health care. The taxes we pay entitle us to have accommodations. Tobacco is the only commodity that legislators tax with impunity and then at the same time attempt to take away smokers' privileges--even where they are allowed. THIS MATTER MUST BE TAKEN INTO COURT AND BRING THE HYPOCRISY AND UNFAIRNESS INTO THE OPEN!Flag

Name: Allan Marshall on Dec 18, 2007Comments: The ETS/SHS fraud has been allowed in the media to go on, uncontested, for WAY TOO DARN LONG already(not just in Illinois, but everywhere worldwide). It's way past time for Illinois anti-smoking groups to leave private businesses alone, and continue to allow them the freedom to set their own smoking policies, even if some of them do choose to be 100% non-smoking, or 100% smoking. Finally, I think the 1989 Illinois Clean Air Act was definitely sufficient in addressing the issue of restricting permissible indoor smoking areas, and Illinois lawmakers should've known better than to change a law that had worked perfectly for this state for over 17 years!Flag
