Petition Stricter Punishment for child molesters, In Canada. In 2005, the father of my youngest sister molested my 11 year old sister and 7 year old neighbour. He did 9 and a half weeks and was released on bail, in the neighbourhood where these girls lived and went to school. He then breeched his bail conditions, by being within 500 metres of the childrens school and, giving my mother the finger. He was taken back into custody. The provincial court denied his second bail. He waited 30 days and applied for bail reveiw at the superior court. They let him out on the same bail with better conditions then originally stated. He pleaded not-guilty and these two little girls had to go through court prep for trial. After being denied an ajournment (16 mnths later and the night before trial), he excepted a deal and pleaded guilty to 2 counts of sexual interferance, to avoid jail time. When it was time for sentencing he received 3 years of probation. There is also a restraining order that does not protect my mother or my other family memebers. Just the two girls. He had to give a DNA sample and was put on the national and provincial sex offenders registry for 10 years. However, he is allowed to work wherever he wishes, even If there are little children for him to look at. He can be around children under 16 only if hes with another adult. (21 yrs. or older). He received CREDIT for 8 mnths in jail, even though he only did 9 and a half weeks!!!! (They INCLUDED the 30 days he did for breeching, which should be seperate time all together). At the time, In provincial court, maximum penalties for sex crimes against children was 6 mnths. per charge. Now it is approximately 18 mnths. per charge.
