Regulate Deferred Prosecution Agreements!
Corporate deferred prosecution agreements are ineffective in addressing corporate crime and are unjust. Deferred prosecution agreements for corporations like AIG have been cited as contributing to our current economic crisis. Because deferred prosecution agreements allow corporations to avoid facing serious repercussions for crimes like fraud, they promote corporate irresponsibility and are in need of reform. More accountability is needed in the process of selecting corporate monitors in deferred prosecution agreements. Deferred prosecution agreements should also be more strictly regulated to prevent further criminal activity and economic damage. It is imperative that Congress pass H.R. 6492, the Accountability in Deferred Prosecution Act, to prevent our nation from the dangers of deferred prosecution agreements. Thank you for your time and consideration.
