Help keep accessible parking spaces free for the truly physically challenged. It is time that we, the one's who are physically challenged, need to be heard. I have started this petition to make it known to the every state that it is time that something is done about able-bodied people illegally using a accessible parking space for their convenience. No one seems to pay attention to the ADA law so something else has to be done to stop this from happening.
Accessible parking spaces are not there for when able-bodied people "are just popping in" or as an overflow when standard spaces are full, nor are they for deliveries, rubbish bins or motorbikes.
Handi-parking people as most of us who are physically challenged like to refer the able bodied people as because not only do they rob us of those parking spaces but gives them the easiest access to in and out of business’, stores, parks.
These parking spaces for people who are physically challenged to ensure safe and equal access to goods and services. These parking spaces are ONLY for those who are permanently or temporarily not able to walk long distances (who are in wheelchairs, use walkers or canes).
Most people have witnessed others parking illegally in a accessible parking space and these are the people who have a the handicap permit but legally don’t need it.
Physically challenged people have run out of places to park, as their designated accessible parking spaces are being taken by fraudulent people. Every state needs to enforce The Citizen Observer Program, it acts as an extra set of eyes and ears to help deputies keep the community safe while patrolling in the Sheriff’s office jurisdiction. The volunteers in this program patrol the community in Sheriff’s Office vehicles and report suspicious activities to deputies and issue traffic citations to motorist who illegally park in accessible parking spaces. Also, RFID transmitters should be enforced that way they are able to communicate with parking signs to authenticate registered handicap drivers. This way when someone with no tag or using a fake one pulls into a accessible parking space, a light will signal, this will stop the abuse of accessible parking spaces and spaces that are needed to lower van lifts.
