Name: Wendy Stidham on Jul 22, 2003State: IDCountry: USComments: AT&T customer service is deceptive, fraudulent and liars. They put whatever they want into your record and say you asked for. Of course, you have no way to prove you didn't say that. I have kept notes of all calls I have made to AT&T and my notes are never the same. AT&T even went into my account, changed my plan to a 30 minute a month plan (I use about 1300)and put a password on the account. Now they won't talk to me because I don't know the password. They want me to go to the local store and prove who I am before the will even talk with me. They said I called and asked the plan to be changed and I was happy to take the contract extension. I would never, ever agree to a contract extension with AT&T. In fact, any time I have to call them, I reinterate that I am not getting a contract extension. Of course, they say no. But it never works out that way. And they say they are recording the conversation, but when you ask to hear the conversation, they say they can not find it on their tapes. This company needs to be reined in. They are abusing customers, lying about what they are providing, they don't tell you about changes, they say any changes are on their bills, and they are not. We need to work toward reining in this deceptiveness and getting a law that makes wireless company provide all changes in writing prior to doing the changeFlag

Name: Tanina Matheson on Jul 31, 2003State: GACountry: USComments: AT&T sold my husband over $800.00 in prepaid phone cards that DO NOT have an expiration date listed ANYWHERE on the package or the cards. He were never advised that they could expire when he got them as a gift for me. I didn't use them for over one year because I already had regular cellular service with AT&T. When my contract expired (after 3 years of renewing once a year), it had been approximately 15 months sincew he bought the cards for me, and I attempted to use them. AT&T had just changed their cards to a prepaid dollar amount rather than prepaid minute cards. They refused to let me use them or to reimburse me, or give me ANY type of credit. That leaves us out more than $800.00!! And like you, no one will address my complaint, or contact me to solve this problem. I say we file a class action lawsuit against them if this petition doesn't do the job! Thank you all!Flag

Name: Dave McDougal on Aug 21, 2003State: WACountry: USComments: AT&T and all of the wireless telephone service providers need to be punished for their clearly unethical business practices. Furthermore everyone in the Consumer Protection Agency should be fired for letting all of these communications companies do what they have done to the American consumers. If they are going to sell a service and take our money in return for that service, they should be required to provide it or not take the money. Service level agreements should not require customers to pay for service not recieved.Flag

Name: David Ellis on Aug 22, 2003State: NYCountry: USComments: I was a loyal customer for 2 years, and then my plan apparently "expired" without me realizing it. While I normally paid $40 a month, I suddenly had a bill for $300. I contacted ATT customer service, where I was offered the same old deal that I had, with no new phone, and my $300 would be brought down to what I had been paying. I was disgusted with this business practice and paid them out. I just didn't trust AT&T anymore and their ability to harm my credit.Flag

Name: Diana Rhodes on Aug 22, 2003State: TXCountry: USComments: When I contacted AT&T to find out when my contract ended, I was told it had been extended when the plan was changed under the new "promotion". When I complained that I never was informed of the "promotion", the customer service rep responded with "Well, I'm sure you were told". Unless I want to pay their $175 per line to disconnect, they have me for another year! No help, no caring. Also, one of our phones, which is still under warranty, will not be repaired/replaced by AT&T unless I pay a one time, courtesy fee of $49.95. They didn't charge my anything to receive the phone, it's under warranty, but I must eat a $49.95 charge to have it repaired/replaced. Again, AT&T offered no care or sympathy, just my options.Flag

I was never told about proration, nor the daytime hours changed. Night an evening went from 7p to 9p. This company has a churn factor to turn get people to change plans. Name: Colleen Jensen on Aug 25, 2003State: NECountry: USComments: On April 5, 2003, my husband and I purchased two AT&T phones with the same AT&T plan. In order to get the plans we each had to sign a 1-year contract with them. Three months later, my husband and I moved to a small town in Nebraska. It was clear to us that we couldn\'t use our phones due to static, being cut off, and not receiving expected calls. I called AT&T Customer Care Department at 1-800-888-7600 to inform them of this. Basically they told us that they did not provide service in the area and that is why we were experiencing difficulties. I then told them that we do not want the service then. They told me that I would have to pay $175 for each contract signed due to an early termination fee. In addition, since I called on June 28, they told me that I had to purchase phone service for July (Due to Billing Cycles). This cost me $600.00. *NOT DONE YET! On August 22, 2003, I called AT@T CUSTOMER CARE 1800-888-7600 to inform them that I did not receive a statement for July 2003. They told me that one was been sent out to me on July 31 and that I should have already received my statement. They informed me that if I wanted a new one sent they would charge me $5.00. This company is jerking us aroundFlag

Name: Nicole Lepoutre-Baldocchi on Aug 28, 2003State: CACountry: USComments: Here's my complaint: On April 29, 2003 I called ATT Wireless to change my plan from a local plan to mLife National. My son's father was dying and I knew that I would be traveling to Tennessee from California shortly. I expected that I would be able to call California from Tennessee without incurring roaming charges. I was shocked and furious to find a bill in the amount of $242.50 at the end of May. I called Customer Service and was told that, according to their notes, I had signed up for their mLife Local plan. Why in the world would I sign up for their mLife Local plan when I knew I would be traveling Clearly their representative made a mistake. I pointed this out to them repeatedly and was told that there was nothing they could do. I asked if I could be let out of my contract early, without paying the early termination fee, so I could take my business elsewhere. They told me I couldn't do that either. I have now converted to ATT's mLife National plan because I anticipate having to travel again soon. As soon as I can get out of the contract without paying ATT one red cent, I will take my business elsewhere. Here's what I'd like to see happen: My ire could be soothed somewhat if ATT Wireless refunded me in the amount of $190.06 (the amount of roaming charges incurred erroneously), or if they let me out of my contract early without an early termination fee.Flag

Name: Melissa Wolfmann on Sep 4, 2003State: CACountry: USComments: I am currently having a problem with AT&T. I switched plans May 31, 2003, from Tri-State to Nationwide.... and because I travel a lot, I arranged to have my monthly charges automatically deducted from my bank account. Need I say more... a deadly combo. While on a 2 1/2 month job stint out of state, I am called frantically from my husband that $568.15 charge was on the wireless bill. I call AT&T Customer Service and clear up the mess. As guessed, they never switch my plan and told me the charge to my bank account didn't go through yet... and now that things were mended, I would only be charged $39.99 plus tax for my plan. A few weeks later more problems. AT&T deducted $568.15 from my bank account and put it as a credit on my wireless account against a $39.99 deduction. So, I call them AGAIN. Their custumer service people switch me around and around to different departments. One the Receivable Management where they said I would get my money back... And another called the "Escalation Department" where I tried to file a complaint, but the dude was just not interested. In short, after many phone calls to their custumer support I still do not have my money. They keep telling me "in 72 hours." Anyway, since I have contacted a D.A. Fraud Unit in my town and will be sending a complaint letter to every AT&T Wireless Service address I can find (since they do not have a proper complaint form). The more read online about how AT&T has treated many of their custumers, I really think their incompetence have really screwed a lot of nice people over, financially and emotionally Without us, where would they be The corp. and the folks who work their customer service.
