As of today, there is only hope that the death penalty’s days are numbered. Between the high costs of enforcing such a penalty, the effects it has on victim’s families, and the risk of putting an innocent person to death makes it obvious that the death penalty by execution isn't the right option. According to Mark Elliot, “It is time to cut our losses and re-allocate these huge sums of taxpayer dollars to proven methods that protect the public: solving violent crimes, preventing crime, and providing immediate and real relief to families of murder victims.” This man is right. The money we spend on execution is wasted. Death penalty by prison without parole is the more cost effective option according to data recorded by the Death Penalty Information Center. Not only is it more effective, but it also provides victim’s families with closure of not being exposed on newscasts of the process and the repeating of the crime. The intention of this petition is to raise an awareness of the legislation of opinions of people and what it is that they support. Florida, it is time for the legislation to listen to their people and abolish the death penalty by execution.
