Abernant vertrinary services, unlike most shelters in our area do not follow the no kill policy with their animals.I was horrified when i went to adopt a healthy two year old dog from them, and i was told that i had one hour to return and if i didnt make it back he would be killed. When i was at the shelter 4 out of the 6 dogs that day were to be put down. 3 were under the age of of 2 one was 6, and one was just a puppy.WHILE AT THE SHELTER THESE DOGS ARE GIVEN 5 DAYS TO LIVE, WHICH IS PAID FOR FROM THE TOWN. SOMETIMES THE DOGS ARE GIVEN A TWO OR THREE DAY GRACE PERIOD AFTER THAT, BUT QUITE OFTEN THESE DOGS ARE KILLED AFTER ONLY 5 DAYS. If someone lost their dog and lived out of the area, or couldnt get their in 5 days, their dog would be killed. ABERNANT SHOULD NOT BE ALLOWED TO ACCEPT DOGS FROM OUR AREA THEY SHOULD GO TO THE BARRIE SPCA WHICH HAS A NO KILL POLICY, OR SIGN THE PETITION BELOW WHICH WILL STOP THESE DOGS FROM BEING KILLED, AND POSSIBLY HELP A SHELTER BE BUILT IN COLLINGWOOD!

im still reading every story you guys are leaving and honestly it just makes me more determined to get abernant to change their policy. this is getting so much bigger than i imagined and i am working on getting a meeting with the town to talk about other options for these dogs.

i honestly cant believe how fast this is growing. seeing so many people care about these dogs is giving me a lot of hope that we can actually force a change at abernant.

5 days is just not enough time for a family to find their lost pet. Thats just cruel.

I went there to look for my dog and the vibe was just so depressing. Never going back.

My heart breaks for the puppy. They deserve a chance at a real home not to be put down after a few days because of some arbitrary rule.
