Name: Sonia Delgadillo on Jan 24, 2012Comments: As a former community college student, I am very disappointed at some of the recommendations put forth by the SSTF. Specifically, the very narrow definition of student success does not apply to many cc students. I can personally attest to the "success" that the CCC system helped me achieve even though I did not receive an AA or certificate. I worked full-time and took classes in the evenings over many years before I was able to later transfer to a 4-year college where I also studied part-time. I went on to earn an MA. Since then, I have been happily employed in a field I love. I have financial security and have raised responsible, well-educated children. Isn't that success? Isn't that the American dream? Isn't that what community college should do?Flag

They have been here over the decades to cement relationships in the town and cross-polinate the critical elements of a thriving community. LET'S NOT LET THIS DIE! Young people, older people, and many of those in between stand to lose so much... PROTECT CONTINUING EDUCATION AT ALL COSTS! For, the cost of failing to do so is far too great.Flag

These classes prepare students who are lacking in English and academic skills to enter higher level classes. Without these classes, these students will have nowhere else to go to gain the necessary skills to move forward in education. And California will be left with a growing number of uneducated or undereducated immigrants, an unskilled population, and a widening gap between rich and poor.Flag

Name: John Robinson on Jan 26, 2012Comments: Everyone has the right to an education, no matter what their educational background is. Let's remember that goal orientation is not education. Just as the body needs a variety of foods for nourishment, so the mind needs a variety of subjects for nourishment and health: art, music, history, literature, language. Then the mind can focus better on goals, objectives, and inventiveness. Nobody and no subject left behind, please. The SSTF is a corporate sham, is it not?Flag

Low-cost education at public institutions has been a basic American right and we need to protect that now and in the future.Flag
