| 601 | Martyn Clubley | I use this road almost daily to commute to Market Weighton. I would have considered cycling to work (a 40 mile round trip) I don't believe that would be safe for myself or other road users without a dedicated cycle lane. Cycle tourism could be big in the east riding if the right infrastructure where in place. |

| 604 | Christopher Boyle | At peak periods it is difficult and dangerous to enter the A1079, and the 8 Miles to the A 64 and York can take over !/2 an hour. |
| 605 | Richard colley | it should be a duel carriageway, its a nightmere when you get stuck behind slow moving wagons peaple end up over taking in daft place because they get fed up, good siting of the speed cameras on one of the few safe places to overtake, big well done to who ever came up with that great plan!! |
| 606 | K. Owen | The speed cameras are working (to a degree) but they are no replacement for an upgrade of the road et-al.
Give us all room to move and watch the KSI rate plummet! Box us in (as now) and you are killing us by your negligence...UPGRADE NOW! |
| 607 | Anonymous | Was almost taken out by a psycho driver attempting to overtake round a blind bend. This road needs sorting. |
| 608 | Anonymous | Why are all the speed (not safety) cameras on relatively new, straight, wider bits of road where overtaking is potentially most safe. This trunk road should be dual carriageway for its full length. |
| 609 | christine gibbs | For the past 40 years we have travelled up and down the A1079 regularly visiting relatives in York, The traffic on this road has got progressively heavier making driving more hazardous. If ever there was a road that needed upgrading this is it! |
| 610 | Neil Winstanley | |
| 611 | Stu Mitchell | This road is in dire need of upgrade: given the accident record and strategic importance of the route, it should have been done years ago. |
| 612 | Jody Horth | This 'road' is a disgrace. Either build a direct rail link between Hull and York - going through Selby is unacceptable - or dual the A1079. It is the most frustrating road in Yorkshire. |
| 613 | Isabel Schmidt | I travel from Beverley to York and back every day. Most days you spot an incident. |

| 617 | Geoffrey Hills | In the 30 odd years in which I have been driving, I have never come across such a dangerous stretch of road as the A1079 between Wilberfoss & York. Both of the junctions at Wilberfoss are extremely dangerous and It can only be a matter of time before someone is killed. Traffic mangement is urgently required at one of these junctions to allow safe access onto the A1079 from the village. |

| 619 | Anonymous | There seems to be an accident everyday on this road. I think if there was more dual carriageway people would be less reckless about overtaking. |
| 620 | Anonymous | The road is dangerous and not fit for use as a main road linking the cities of York and Hull. Nothing short of making the route a Dual Carriageway or creating new links to the A64 will ease the problems. Public transport in the area is a joke with no rail network available to take some of the strain. |

| 622 | derek pouton | Up-grading this extremely busy road is long overdue. Whilst many of the accidents are a result of poor and often dangerous driving there are too many innocent drivers and passengers being killed or seriously injured. Action required NOW. |
| 623 | Maureen Thornton | All too many time I have to divert on my way to and from work in York due to an accident on the 1079. It is time this road was update to accommodate the volume of traffic. |
| 624 | Rachel Strong | |
| 625 | AARON | SOMETHING NEEDS TO BE DONE BEFORE MORE LIFES ARE LOST. BUT IF IT IS UPGRADED IT NEEDS TO BE KEPTED IN GOOD CONDITION THE DUEL CARRAGE WAY AT HAYTON TO SHIPTONTHORPE IS A DEATH TRAP, I'VE NEVER SEEN A ROAD IN SUCH A POOR STATE. |
| 626 | Richard Leeson | Sir, Being the relation of the latest serious crash victim on the 1079 at wilberfoss 7th March 2008 @ 16.30hrs.
I hear about accidents there, and it was the victim who was traveling to Hull and has done for years, he keeps telling me of the nightmare from Hell, I support any action that is carried out to prevent anything happening again. |
| 627 | Anonymous | I would like to add my signature in support of this petition, as it was my Gransons father whowa sinvolved in the crash on Wednesday, I have asked my son to put this for me as I am a housebound pensioner and don't know about computors. |
| 628 | liza leeson | my fiance is in hospital due to a accident at wilberfoss the road needs sorting out as I wouldn't wish this on any more familys |
| 629 | Katie Simmester | |
| 630 | Alex May | Saddened to hear of a friend whose life may be devestated by an accident on this road involving her partner. Don't let this happen to more people. |

| 633 | Jayne Bragg | |
| 634 | Philippa Shaw | In this day and age it is hard to believe that the A1079, an A road between two busy cities is a single twisty carriage way, particularly given the huge volume of traffic it carries, not to mention the many arterial roads which link into it through small villages. The whole road system in East Yorkshire needs to be looked at |

| 638 | Gemma Bellett | Another death this morning - something needs to be done. |
| 639 | vikki | ive lived next to the A1079 for 19 years and drive allong the road 4 times a day, the speed camers have made a dramatic inprovment on the market weightion to HOSM juntion, why not have safty camers allong @ roundabouts and junctions and permanent speed camers in shiptionthorp i have been over taken there alot in the village at it isnt funny . never mind the dual carrage way, i have been travaling to york and have had people turning right at me cuming at me at the begining of the dual carrage way nr thorply-street, it is not made clear enough NO RIGHT TURN and neva mind the rush down the streight and get cut up on the hached area outside hayton , its irrisponsable and there the drivers that cause accidents, at the end of the day its not the road that causes deaths its the people who use them . |
| 640 | Anonymous | A work collegue was tragically killed on this road yesterday. I travel the same route everyday with my 3 year old daughter in the car. Something has to be done NOW. This road is as dangerous as it gets. |

| 645 | maurice Smith | I have lived along the A1079 for a number of years, and I have had my fair share of close calls, unfortunately my luck ran out on Arras Hill near home when someone ran into the side of me.
The problem with the A1079 isnt the lack of a dual carriage way or even the fact there are roundabouts. The problem is that there are lots of small single crossroads which are the only way onto the 1079 for a significant number of people which are either not signalled or do not have roundabouts. As a result it is possible to wait for a (safe) entry onto the 1079 between 10 -15 minutes. As the traffic and population density have increased in Pocklington, Market Weighton and Dunnington the queues are becoming longer and longer, the waiting time to get onto the A1079 is becoming longer and people are becoming impatient.
There are a number of things that could resolve a lot of the issues.
Grimston Bar - Block the exit onto the A1079 from Elvington. Make the dunnington/petrol station crossroads into a roundabout and make the elvington traffic come out there, if neccessary traffic light the roundabout. This will allow the grimston bar traffic to flow a lot smoother.
A better solution would be to have a permanent filter lane for A1079 traffic onto the A64 left, but this is slightly expensive and the money could be better spent elsewhere.
All crossroads onto the A1079 - The impatience is from waiting to get onto the 1079, if all the crossroads where roundabouts, overtaking incidents would reduce - not enough time between roundabouts TO overtake. A much greater chance to get onto the A1079 for commuters, as a result incidents would be reduced.
Co-ordination between the councils - there are 3 councils involved which all have to input EQUALLY to pay for the changes, or get the status raised to the highways agency as a major change then you will get national funds which could be argued (debated) for differently. |

| 650 | Adrian Gascoyne | I travel the A1079 daily for work. The standard of the road does not meet the weight of traffic it carries. |
