Mike Hunt | It's not so much the road that is at issue but the people who drive on it. Especially the inconsiderate farmers in their tractors who refuse to pull over and let people past.

Trevor Hutchinson | This road is the only major link between York and Hull. It has always been a mediocre A road however the increased level of traffic in recent years surely requires some sort of improvement.
Anonymous | I Tvael on this road daily, twice a day and it needs upgrading substanially for all concerned in the futuire. The traffic levels warrant it !
| 559 | Phillippa Lee | Literally have to take you life in to your own hands to join the A1079 from Pocklington if you have to cross a lane of traffic.
Night time visibility to join the road is absalutely appalling as well, resulting in difficulty juging distances. Drivers on the A1079 seem to ignore the 50 mile an our speed limit which compounds all of the above and a permenant (or several permenent) speed cameras or an average speed check would be of great benefit! |

Anonymous | Congestion would improve dramatically if all farm machinery would reframe from using the 1079 between the hours 8-9.00 am and 5-6.00 pm. In addition following the so called improvements at the A64/1079 intersection there are now too many traffic lights A64 i.e. 3 sets in as many as 100 yards. Also, the Speed camers at Barmby Moor only cause the traffic to bunch together and the addition of the shevrons up and down the 1079 only cause confusion and make it imposssible to overtake safely.

Greg Dean | The 1079 cannot handle the levels of traffic and is becoming more dangerous.

Anonymous | I forget to mention the ever increasing numbers of lorries that use the 1079 most of which drive North on the A1, East on the A64 then on the 1079 to Hull. In my opion they should be made to travel South on the A1 then East on the M62 addmittedly its a longer route but we'er talking easing congestions. There are also far too many car travelling into York on the 1079 from the direction from Hull paricularly on a school day and a congestion charge would put and end to this.

Liz Colebrook | The A1079 is becoming increasingly dangerous - slow moving traffic prompts frustrated motorists to take unnecessary risks overtaking, whilst in the mornings, bizarrely, traffic is halted on the main carriageway whilst drivers let slow moving lorries out of side roads. As the main route between York, Beverley and Hull with many small towns and villages in between being "dormitories" for these larger towns/cities, it is inconceivable that a single carriageway road is all that is available.

kevin parsons | we need to concentrate our efforts to persuade the authorities to upgrade the a1079 rather than wasting money on reopenning the hull to york railway. Lets face it, the authorities are not going to spend money on both. Rail travel will be too expensive for most people, and the trains will be mostly used by pensioners and students (with concessionary fares), and a few commuters who need to be in the centre of the city. The vast majority of us want and need our cars! We need the A1079 improving to a dual carriageway. I f you look at the land within a few hundred yards south of the A1079, it is largely unpopulated and of little natural beauty.. Has anyone considere building a second (westbound) cariageway along this vacant land? We need a campaign to to discredit the railway proposal and encourage the road improvement.!!
Mr Swann | I use the road everyday when I'm at home. I find it quicker to use country lanes than the main road to get to york and back.

neil richardson | To this day i can't believe the this road is single lane. The only road that links York and Hull, especially as Hull is the nearest port connecting us to Europe.
Jenny Shaw | I have family in York so use this road a lot and more times than not meet congestion. The speed cameras I don't think help as cars who don't understand what the speed limit is tend to drive at 40mph just to be on the safe side causing cues and in some cases road rage and overtaking problems. I am also constantly seeing lorries speeding along and then having to break for the speed cameras. I would use the train more if there was a faster and cheaper service but it takes an hour to and hour and a half by train!!!
Anonymous | There are many obvious points at which this road can be improved. Signage from York to the A 1079 especially on the Northern ring road is awful. Somethimes Hull disappears altogether in favour of small towns like Scarborough and Thirsk.
Dr W B Betts | We just want to get to work and to visit shops to buy our necessities. To do this we have to suffer countless wasted hours of stress and misery because of the not untypical British neglect of infrastructure, in this instance the A1079 Hull to York traffic jam!

Miriam Anne Betts | The road is extremely busy at all times. Should have been a dual carrigeway!! The main road from York- Hull!!! People become very frustrated. Tractors on slowing traffic at peak times. Crazy! So you are stuck in a 30min. queue. with no opportunity to overtake.
