Comments: I am supportive of this petition as feel it is very important that everybody in urban or rural areas should have access to land to grow their own food. This would have a positive benefit for heath and general well being

Comments: All land that is not used is waste. This is a political issue. It includes "deer forest" and other lands that formerly supported large populations but are now not much more than wilderness. Those who want to work land that is waste should have that right.

Comments: There need to be many more opportunities for people to grow their own food, especially now that food costs have soared and we now have Food banks! To do that, there needs to be land owned by Local Councils, which cannot be built on, set aside for growing food. Many doctors are "prescribing" gardening & growing food as therapy for good health - a good move as it is a useful activity out in the fresh air.

Comments: How to grow the fruit and veg we eat is important knowledge for families to pass on to their children. It also allows you to choose the types of food (organic/minimal pesticide, seasonal, matched to the local climate etc) and the different varieties you want to grow which may/may not be found in super-markets. With climate change we have to be more self-sufficient and it would bring appreciation/respect for the work, joy, and satisfaction involved in cultivation, which should help with much current food wastage.

Comments: If this was in place it would be a win-win-win situation because land could then be used more productively, people will enjoy seeing well cared for land, people working collectively is positive for health and happiness and we encourage a culture of caring for our soil.

Comments: As a member of a group that has spent three years looking for land to develop allotments I support this proposal fully. There is much underused land here that our local authority describes as reserved for strategic purposes. However, this has lain unused for many years, and could have been used for growing food locally in the meantime.

Comments: I really favour puting local grassy verges etc that have to maintained anyway to better use. Start growing our native trees and helping the environment rather than using machinery to cut grass. Hazels and apple trees dotted around a town or village and of course wild flowers would be better for wildlife, better for education and could even provide a daytime snack!
