Omar has lived in Canada for 5 years having fled Mexico seeking refugee status when him and other family members started receiving death threats and were targeted with violence, and did not receive support or protection in Mexico. ...
The Canadian government dismissed Omar's case, and due to his fear of going back to Mexico, Omar took sanctuary. During his stay in sanctuary Omar could not work, and when he decided to return to his apartment with some friends to pick up some of his furniture to sell, to continue to help support himself and his family, alerted by the building manager, CBSA raided and arrested Omar. He has spent one year in detention, and now his deportation has been set for Wednesday October 16th. Thispetition is to stop Omar's deportation, as Omar and his family strongly believe that returning to Mexico will put Omar in serious danger.

We, the undersigned, call on the Minister of Citizenship and Immigration and the Minister of Public Safety and Emergency Preparedness to stop the deportation of Mexican refugee claimant Omar Quevedo Cruz so that he not be tortured in Mexico. We demand that the Immigration Minister grant Omar temporary status and to ensure that he gains permanent status in Canada.
