A petition to stop the elimination of Gang Squad and Tact Mobile

30 Signatures Goal: 1,000

Roughly 400 people have already signed a paper copy of this petition.

This petition is in response to the proposed Detroit Police Department plan to restructure and eliminate Gang Squad and Tact Mobile; two essential units for the DPD. Given the Michigan State Legislatures definition of a "gang" (Michigan § 750.411u) we believe that Detroit has a gang epidemic. A recent survey conducted at Denby High School found that 80% of Detroit's youth either affiliate with a gang or know someone  in a gang.

Gang violence needs to stop and disbanding Gang Squad will only increase gang violence.

As students and community leaders in Detroit we believe these units are vital to the community and the students of Detroit schools. These brave men and women play an instrumental role in keeping Detroit youth safe and on a track to success through fast response, continuous follow up and the building of relationships with our youth. If disbanded we firmly believe that violence will surge. Gang Squad and Tact Mobile are an essential component in the ongoing effort to decrease violence in Detroit.

We are against the disbanding of Gang Squad and Tact Mobile.
