PETITION TO REOPEN A BANK IN KIPPAX Since the closure of Barclays, and also the Midland Bank on Cross Hills. Kippax has not had any banking facilities on the High Street other than the Post Office. We feel that this has been a major contributor in the loss of shops and shoppers on the street. Many years ago there were 56 shops on the High Street now there are 39 active trading businesses in Kippax including a Co-operative supermarket supported by a local population of approximately 10,000 people. We are told that in the not too distant future many more houses are to be built in Kippax, the residents will need banking facilities close to home. Planning permission has been given for 8 new shops and discussions are underway for 3 of the empty shops to re-open. A bank will give stability and offer a better service to the residents of Kippax and surrounding areas. The village has a long history with an 11th century Saxon Church, featuring rare herringbone brick architecture. There is evidence of a Roman and pre-Roman community presence. As such, Kippax is a traditional Yorkshire village with a hard working local community that actively supports the local Co-operative store, in both a trade and membership context. A bank would be welcomed and actively supported by the local Kippax trading businesses and the local Kippax community. We urge you to support this petition if you want banking facilities in your village. We thank you for your support.
