First, the children in the Western part of Woodland Springs are all attending different schools. Next, it is illogical to expect children to ride on a bus longer than one hour, one way to attend school, when they are in proximity of two if not more closer schools. Currently, our middle school children are on the bus an average of one hour and twenty minutes one way. These same children are being sent to schools which are in an average of 4-6 miles away from their community.
The Woodland Springs 'West' section is an active participant of Woodland Springs division, which advertises 'on-site' schools, which is clearly being denied to our residences. Additionally, KISD has previously confirmed that Woodland Springs Elementary is currently only half full, and would clearly be able to accommodate the 'left-behind' children of the Western section of Woodland Springs development. Prior to purchasing our homes, the residences were told by KISD, the City of Fort Worth and the builders, we would have access to the Woodland Springs School, which currently we do not. It has been reaffirmed, the developer informed KISD of the development of the complex and the expected date of completion of each development, which would anticipate the approximate arrival of school age children.
Presently, our children are being denied the right to develop long term relationships with their mutual peers, in and out of school in the same mutual community to which they live.
Here is an example of our continued frustrations and illustrates the instability our children are experiencing: 2003-2004 Keller Harvel Elementary, 2004-2005 Bette Perot Elementary, 2005-2006 Woodland Springs Elementary II. As one will notice, within three consecutive school years, our children will change schools three times.
The recipients of this petition will be the superintendent of KISD and the school board of KISD. |
