Unless you perform dangerous tasks like operating a nuclear power plant, driving a train, or carrying a firearm, and are not entrusted with sensitive governmental operations like drug interdiction or handling classified information, what does it matter? What's next, a piss test for booze, cigarettes, foods containing trans-fats? No one likes to pay for welfare bums, if you're that adamant about it just change the laws to shorten the length of time people can receive benefits.

In a decision released Wednesday, an evenly divided U.S. 6th Circuit Court of Appeals upheld a lower court decision that invalidated the Michigan law requiring drug testing of welfare recipients. According to the ACLU, when the state implemented the policy on a pilot basis, 21 of 268 people tested positive, all but three for marijuana.
That level of drug use is "consistent with drug use in the general population," the ACLU said in a statement. |

But this is why I started this, to get opinions on what should be done and I think that is a good point that maybe there should be a time limit on how long people should be on welfare if being drug tested would not work. I completely agree with Randi83. If you could be rejected for a job for failing a drug test, why shouldn't America reject paying you for being a "user". Clean yourself up, get a job, pay your taxes and stop bringing the system down with your laziness.

Sad to say that there are actually MANY welfare receipients who are on drugs provided FREE OF COST by our tax dollars, by our government. These are narcotics in the form of prescription drugs for false ailments, the same ailments they claim prevent them from working! Some of them even sell their drugs (i.e. Vicodin) on the street to pay for brand-new SUVs! I learned this while living in the city (where some of my neighbors paid minimal rent for their Section-8 housing). Drastic measures are needed to make these people accountable and welfare drug-testing could be part of the solution. MTME

voting for the most qualified candidate for the highest position in our government and commander in chief. Sorry to differ, B.H.O. is NOT qualified. As I listen to his list of things he wants to do...he thinks he is being voted KING. Our president must work with congress and the senate to pass laws and to CHANGE anything. This is how our government works; not with a magic wand.

Very serious! Obama is gonna put a moratorium on home foreclosures and Jesse Jackson says everybody that has been foreclosed upon will get a 2nd chance at getting a new home. Obama's stance on abortion is the right one. He says no child should be "burdened with a baby." I agree!
And Obama's gonna get us out of Iraq in 60 days. That's awesome! I think he's also supporting reparation payments to relative's of black slaves. It's about time I get mine's and we minorites get a say in this US of KKK A.

That Florida sun must be getting to you Columbus. Unlike you, I don't look to the government to provide for me. I don't need handouts from anyone. Since you are unable or unwilling to take care of yourself, you must rely on the government to provide your every need, and either Democratic Presidential candidate should work good for you. It'll be like Christmas time.
You can finally get that home you can't afford, get reparations for something that happened centuries ago and never even affected you, and unburden yourself of your babies. Good luck!

Columbus is probably the person selling his vicodin. His opinion seems completely ignorant too me. I agree with drummerjack and dlmtv32 whole heartedly. I grew up in areas where getting over on the government was a way of life. i guess I am just lucky my parents taught me how to have pride in myself and a sense of accomplishment rather than taking me to the doctor to get the drugs for them.
