6 Justin VesciI think you should have to be clean in order to get government assistance. The Civil Rights Act of 1964 was not intended to help junkies score for their addiction.

20 Shaun DavisI believe a drug test should be required. Im tired of hearing stories from my girlfriend telling me about how people come in to her store to buy blunts with food stamps. Its ridiculous.

24 Anonymousi have to pass several drug tests a year, to get by and i think that this is a great way to weed out all the folks that get money for free and do drugs..which is a crock of crap...

33 Steve MillerSounds like this person has a cob up their ass because they have to piss in a cup. I'm betting this crybaby has never really had to suffer the humiliation of having someone stare at his dick while he tries to piss. What's the point? Unless you perform dangerous tasks like operating a nuclear power plant, driving a train, or carrying a firearm, and are not entrusted with sensitive governmental operations like drug interdiction or handling classified information, what does it matter? What's next, a piss test for booze, cigarettes, foods containing trans-fats? No one likes to pay for welfare bums, if you're that adamant about it just change the laws to shorten the length of time people can receive benefits. 1-04-2003, 00:17 In a decision released Wednesday, an evenly divided U.S. 6th Circuit Court of Appeals upheld a lower court decision that invalidated the Michigan law requiring drug testing of welfare recipients. According to the ACLU, when the state implemented the policy on a pilot basis, 21 of 268 people tested positive, all but three for marijuana. That level of drug use is "consistent with drug use in the general population," the ACLU said in a statement.
34 AnonymousI am the one that started this Petition and I am a female. And for your information I never had to get drug tested to get a job. But this is why I started this, to get opinions on what should be done and I think that is a good point that maybe there should be a time limit on how long people should be on welfare if being drug tested would not work. They should be given a certain amount of time to get back on their feet, like someone commented at yourplum.com "They should give you up to a year or two to try to get your life together and if you still don't have a job or proof that you are going to school or trying to improve your life they should take it away."

39 Donnie Kinnanamen. The redistribution of wealth in this soon to be socialist country has gone beyond asinine. Take from those who do for themselves and give to those who do not. But when gving, don't be specific on what they can buy...just turn your head as you give them money to spend on drugs, alcohol and cigarettes or a foodstamp card with no restrictions so they can buy pepsi and twinkies and grow more obese. Way to help the poor people american government! Just a ploy to expand the liberal voter base who are suckling on the teet of the government from the cradle to the grave.
40 DianeI AGREE, i CAN NAME 10 PEOPLE i KNOW COLLECTING WELFARE, FOOD STAMPS AND A MEDICAL CARD AND THEY ARE SITTING HOME SMOKING DRINKING AND DOING DRUGS AND COMPLAIN THEY CANT MAKE IT ON WHAT THEY ARE GETTING, GIVE ME A BRAKE, I AM ON DISABILITY AND I AM NOT ENTITLED TO ANY OF THAT BECAUSE MY DISABILITY AMT EXCEEDS THEIR POVERTY LEVEL, BY THE TIME I AM DONE PAYING FOR MY OWN HEALH INS AND FODD AND UTILITIES I HAVE NOTHING LEFT SOMETHING NEEDS BE DONE AND SOON

Welfare blog Submitted by Plumparent on April 4, 2008 - 1:54pm. For the person that said they don't agree... Why not? I completely agree with Randi83. If you could be rejected for a job for failing a drug test, why shouldn't America reject paying you for being a "user". Clean yourself up, get a job, pay your taxes and stop bringing the system down with your laziness. Welfare drug tests Submitted by Mtme on April 4, 2008 - 8:48pm. Sad to say that there are actually MANY welfare receipients who are on drugs provided FREE OF COST by our tax dollars, by our government. These are narcotics in the form of prescription drugs for false ailments, the same ailments they claim prevent them from working! Some of them even sell their drugs (i.e. Vicodin) on the street to pay for brand-new SUVs! I learned this while living in the city (where some of my neighbors paid minimal rent for their Section-8 housing). Drastic measures are needed to make these people accountable and welfare drug-testing could be part of the solution. MTME drug/urine test Submitted by columbus on April 7, 2008 - 9:13am. Nah, No test should be required! For way too long the white man has taken advantage of the colored person's of America. We need to vote for Obama, get Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton in the Whithouse Cabinet, pass legislation for more free housing and welfare benefits, and raise taxes. Then you people in Plum and all over America will realize the power of the minority. OOOOOOBAMMMA! Columbus' Comment on Drug Testing Submitted by Randi83 on April 7, 2008 - 10:42am. Is that sarcasm or your true feelings? Power of Minority Submitted by happyhippo on April 9, 2008 - 8:59am. Excuse me...this isn't about 'the power of the minority'. This is about voting for the most qualified candidate for the highest position in our government and commander in chief. Sorry to differ, B.H.O. is NOT qualified. As I listen to his list of things he wants to do...he thinks he is being voted KING. Our president must work with congress and the senate to pass laws and to CHANGE anything. This is how our government works; not with a magic wand. menorities unite Submitted by columbus on April 9, 2008 - 6:50pm. Very serious! Obama is gonna put a moratorium on home foreclosures and Jesse Jackson says everybody that has been foreclosed upon will get a 2nd chance at getting a new home. Obama's stance on abortion is the right one. He says no child should be "burdened with a baby." I agree! And Obama's gonna get us out of Iraq in 60 days. That's awesome! I think he's also supporting reparation payments to relative's of black slaves. It's about time I get mine's and we minorites get a say in this US of KKK A. What a shame! Submitted by drummerjack on April 10, 2008 - 1:12pm. That Florida sun must be getting to you Columbus. Unlike you, I don't look to the government to provide for me. I don't need handouts from anyone. Since you are unable or unwilling to take care of yourself, you must rely on the government to provide your every need, and either Democratic Presidential candidate should work good for you. It'll be like Christmas time. You can finally get that home you can't afford, get reparations for something that happened centuries ago and never even affected you, and unburden yourself of your babies. Good luck! Get a J-O-B Submitted by dlmtv32 on April 13, 2008 - 2:28pm. I agree with drummerjack people need to get a job and quit depending on the tax payers to pay their bills. I think that they should have a cap on how long you get welfare. They should give you up to a year or two to try to get your life together and if you still don't have a job or proof that you are going to school or trying to improve your life they should take it away. Its spelled minorities Submitted by Joey85 on April 29, 2008 - 9:26pm. Columbus is probably the person selling his vicodin. His opinion seems completely ignorant too me. I agree with drummerjack and dlmtv32 whole heartedly. I grew up in areas where getting over on the government was a way of life. i guess I am just lucky my parents taught me how to have pride in myself and a sense of accomplishment rather than taking me to the doctor to get the drugs for them. Someone Flagged this! Submitted by Randi83 on May 14, 2008 - 9:28am. Wow this is a good debate but people just can't help themselves and take care of themselves it looks like.
47 AnonymousI believe that welfare recipients owe us the benefit of knowing if they are using drugs. BUT, what are we going to do with those who fail a drug test? Will that not cost us more in tax money to get them clean? I dunno... such a quandary.
