Waverley West and Regional Growth Management

Petition: To the Legislative Assembly of Manitoba:
Regarding: The sale of public land and City of Winnipeg By-law # 50/2004 amending Plan Winnipeg.

Whereas we, the undersigned residents of Manitoba, are not satisfied that there has been adequate consultation with Manitoba residents regarding the proposed sale of public land west of Waverley Street and the subsequent development of this and other, private lands west of Waverley Street, identified in the motion. Further to this we believe that an amendment to Plan Winnipeg of this magnitude requires full consultation with residents through the Plan Winnipeg Review process, which it has not received.

Therefore your petitioners call on the Legislative Assembly of Manitoba as follows: we demand that (a) the government of Manitoba halt the sale of Manitoba’s share of these lands; and (b) the Minister of Intergovernmental Affairs reject by-law #50/2004; and (c) the Manitoba government develop a regional metropolitan growth management (MGM) strategy for Manitoba in full consultation with the residents of Winnipeg and Manitoba.

I, Andrew Basham, wrote this petition on my own but there are many groups who are against this sprawling megasuburb.
