| 251 | Carole Larkin | Victoria Primary School should not be closed. Newhaven would not be the same if it was not there. I spent many happy years at the school. |

| 253 | Rachael Morris | Victoria Primary school is one of the oldest schools still around in Edinburgh. It would be disgraceful to close it for many reasons. For example it is at the heart of an old community that still rely on it. There is also around 25000 houses being built between Granton and Leith and Victoria is situated right in the middle and most likely be the best place for the parents moving into the area to send there children as it has the best access for transport and also redily available parking surrounding it which would make the school roll increase considerably. And it would actually be cheaper to keep Victoria School open than to completely built a whole new school in the Gregor Shore area.
The building is also well constructed, it has stood for more than 150 years and looks in no way of having any problems. How many of you newer primary schools do you think will last that long? considering most of them are now in talks of either needing completely new roofs and constant work being done to them. The building architecturally is a very beautiful building with so much character.
Also to disrupt all the children at the vulnerable of their education would be damaging!
I attended Victoria Primary and absolutely adored my time there and think it would be a shame if other children couldn't have the same experiences i had. |
| 254 | janet day | victoria school should never be closed down it has always been a good school. The council must need there heads examined for wanting to close any of the schools |
| 255 | John Rintoul | Although it has been many years since I was a pupil at Victoria Primary (in fact 28 yrs) I have fond memories of the school and the high standard of education it provided for the benefit of the local community. But fond memories of the past are insufficient reason to save an establishment if it is no longer required. However, the proposed closure of the school in this case has more to do with the local authority attempting to claw back revenue wasted through mismanagement than it has to do with the school no longer being required. I no longer live in the area but I have had family attend the school in more recent years and I still believe that the school is of vital importance to the children of Newhaven village and the surrounding area. Furthermore, the school is ideally situated in a pedestrian friendly environment with little through traffic but with excellent public transport links nearby. In fact is the proposed tram links to the city not planned to go through Newhaven. (if the council need to save money then keep the school and scrap the trams & or their, meaning councillors, expenses accounts). It would increase the risk to children (both from traffic and other perceived dangers) if they have to go further a field to attend an alternative school not to mention that more parents might feel the necessity to drive their children to other schools if Victoria where to close which will only add to congestion and road traffic dangers for other schools. Also the school is one of the last links to Newhaven maintaining its identity as a village within Edinburgh. No doubt the authority will have an eye on selling the site for housing developments, something which in my opinion would be criminal as the building and what it represents both historically and educationally for the area are of vital importance. Education can not be managed on financial grounds alone, most importantly it should be based on what the local community feels is best for their area, their children and the community’s future. SAVE THE SCHOOL, SAFE THE HEART OF THE VILLAGE !!! |
| 256 | diane mcgregor | i think it is a disgrace what the council is proposing close schools for what reason more houses then where do the kids go . |
| 257 | Radoslaw Jelen | NO! |
| 258 | gary dickson | this area needs a great school like VICTORIA PRIMARY in this area as this is the future for all of our kids |

| 261 | Graeme Dobie | Victoria offers exactly the right environment for my daughter; I fear that having to move to another school at this stage would seriously disrupt both her, and her classmates education.
The petition shows the support which the school has not only amongst parents and former pupils but the community as a whole.
The council would do well to note the effect this might have on future local election results. |

| 279 | Gemma Cunningham | Surely the school has been built for so long, it is now a landmark? If this is true, then there is not reason to close it because what else will it be used for? It will just be a waste. |
| 280 | Ann Marie Niven | I can't believe they are even contemplating the Closure of Victoria Primary School. We can't let them do this even if it means marching I am with you all the way. |

| 286 | Nicola Pickavance (Gilchrist) | As a former pupil of Victoria School, I am happy to lend my support to your campaign to save this hub of the Newhaven community. In the later 70s and early 80s when I attended the school my parents Derek and Helen Gilchrist worked very hard, along with other parents to fight the education committee of the local council and save the school. I really hope this can be achieved again. |
| 287 | Derek Gilchrist | I went to Victoria Primary School between 1977-1982 and thought it was a great school. It was under threat of closure then as well and our family was involved in the campaign that helped keep it up and running. I hope that there will be similar support this time round. It is important to keep such an historic school up and running for the local community. |

| 290 | Mark Lazarowicz MP | To close Victoria Primary School is bad news not just for parents, children and staff but for the local community as well. I oppose the closure and urge the Council to withdraw all their proposals for cuts and closures. If I can be of any help in this campaign, let me know at: lazarowiczm@parliament.uk |
| 291 | Nick Timmins | This action will destroy what's left of a once vibrant community in Newhaven. It is a "village school" and is central to the community. |
| 292 | Claire Barnet | As a former pupil and current cub leader at this school I would be very sad to see it close! |

| 295 | Anonymous | a school with such a great track record should be praised and every effort made to ensure that the school keeps churning out such a great standard of pupil, rather than putting profits before education. |
