| 201 | John Kelly | Keep the school open |
| 202 | Denise Booth-Alexander | How joining a school that is performing very well with a school or schools that are performing at a level significantly below that level is fulfilling the Council's duty of care towards our children is beyond me. Supply us with concrete examples of previous mergers where the educational and behavoural standards of the children from the superior school have been enhanced by such a merger. I am not prepared to accept that putting my child in that environment(i.e. North Fort Street , in which we live!), all day without my guidance, to witness all manner of incidents with alcoholics and drug users is a suitable and caring environment for him at a vulnerable age. This proposal removes all choice in the area for those parents who genuinely strive and make an effort to give their children the best nurturing environment and educational start in this part of town. |
| 203 | keit young | I went to this school so i would like to see it open. |
| 204 | Maureen Forbes(Nee Richardson) | I would hate to see Victoria School closed, |

| 206 | john Inglis | I am an original, Newhaven born and bred. I attended Victoria Primary School from 1965 to 1976. During that time, the school, teachers and community developed my character that was to ensure I became a contributing father and community member.
I vividly remember the sense of privelage at being able to attend such a historical school and took great pride, upon my first trip home after emigrating to California, in showing my teenage children, where I got my start in life.
The ability to go to a school where the community are fully engaged cannot be fully appreciated in a ledger report. This school truly has and would continue to produce, people who have the capacity to contribute far beyond Starbank Park, the Whale Brae and Annfield. Tough decisions can be easily justified financially, however, these are not always the 'best' decisions. Although we yearn for 'progress', we also must bear the responsibility for determining what 'progress' really is. In the part of the world where I now reside, sending a child to a safe, bright, airy, community supported school at the primary level would be considered 'progress'.
As educators, I hope the fact is not lost that Primary School are the formative years and as such it could be argued, the most important time in a childs life. From the acorn of Victoria Primary School Oak Trees grow. I submit to you that doing the popular thing may not always be the right thing. It is easy for us all to immediately point to the reasons why we should close this small school. The right thing to do, however, is to come up with the solution to keep it open. Much harder, but the right thing nonetheless. I ask you to join me in finding the solution to keep this school open for more than sentimental reasons. I ask you to join me in keeping ths school open because many future generations are counting on you to do so.
Thank you for taking the time to 'hear' me out.
Respectfully,
John Inglis |

| 210 | Muriel McLeod nee Milne | I am a former pupil of Victoria Primary School. I had such happy times there as a young person from Aberdeen and I attended Victoria School as one of the former Mayfield children.
We had such happy times there. I would love to add my name to this petition to helpkeep the school in open for the future generation of Newhaven.
Good Luck in saving Victoria School |

| 214 | David Gray | I attended Victoria primary school in 1959. I think it is a good school and with all the new houses at Gregor Shore I would have thought it would be essential to keep it.
I presume Edinburgh Council are hoping to sell off all of these schools to line their pockets.
Well I don't agree. Keep Victoria Primary School Open. |
| 215 | James Heslin | Schools like Victoria are key to providing both education and a sense of belonging / pride and are the building blocks for future generations of well balanced children and adults. MSP's should consider reducing their numbers and not schools like this. |
| 216 | Scott McLean | Given all the new housing in the area, and the excellent results in recent years by the school I strongly support keeping Victoria open.

| 221 | Jane Kelly (Meaney) | I arrived at Victoria Primary School in 1980 after attending a school with 30 to a class I was awe struck at how small it was and how cozy it was also. The small classes helped me as I found it hard to settle in. I have also made life long friends and also meet a cousin that I didn't know I had. |
| 222 | Laura Gray | This school MUST be saved. I attended this school years ago & benefited from the smaller class sizes & dedicated teaching. Why should our children now suffer?! |

| 228 | Christina Smart | How could you think of closing Victoria school it is our heritage, at least 5 generations of my family, including me have gone there. Do you plan to turn it into luxury flats and make money out of it, It is a much loved and respected school and thats how it should stay. |
| 229 | Anonymous | Please support Victoria School and oppose the closure. It is an important part of the Newhaven Community. |
| 230 | jeannette reilly | leave the school alone |
| 231 | James Hay | Yet another short-sighted decision by Edinburgh Council. Everything can't be measured in terms of money and consideration must be given to the impact of such decisions on the community as a whole. |
| 232 | Graham Miller | |
| 233 | Robert W Y Dobie | Victoria Primary School in Newhaven has been the locus of two of my grandchildren who have both benefited from the reduced class size and excellent academic environment which the school provides. To dispence with this excellent facility would be most irrational and short sighted in the extreme. The facilty which the school provides, close to where it is required, is something which should not be abandoned lightly and further more would benefit from an intake from less successful schools adding to the educational needs of other children which have not enjoyed a quality of education which Victoria Primary provides. |
| 234 | Jane Lambie | |
| 235 | Caroline E Dobie | Victoria Primary School, Newhaven has a good academic record, has small lass sizes, which the Holyrood Government are trying to achieve in all primary schools, and has committed dedicated staff who react well with the children. Victoria Primary School is well maintained and furnish and has an up-to-date computer installation. It would be most unwise to play politics with the lives and expectations of the children and the staff. Why not extend the benefits of Victoria Primary School to other school which have not achieved what it has achieved. |

| 239 | James W. Akers | As a former pupil from the early/mid 1940s I have many happy memories of Vicky Primary,as do my 2 sisters and my brother(all a little older and none of them on-line!) We all think it would be a terribleloss to the community if the school was closed and so we would urge the Council to reverse this decision.

| 244 | william duff | I still live in the village and know the area well. Are the council taking into consideration the new houses being built directly behind Victoria?
I thought that surveys and current government thinking wanted small class sizes? |
| 245 | Jean Haigh | I wish to support the campaign to stop the closure of Victoria School, Newhaven |
| 246 | Barbara Rose | As a former pupil of Victoria Primary I would urge you to reconsider your plans for closure. It was a great little school where it was hard to fall through the cracks that would have been inevitable in a larger setting. |
| 247 | luise dickson | |
| 248 | Jeanette Morris | My two girls went to Victoria , andso did my husband and all his family.Tthey all benifited from the close community of Newhaven and of course the school played a big part in their lives. I hope to take my future grandchildren to that school, the best in EDINBURGH -it needs to stay open for all the -children;parents;after school club; scouts ; old age pensioners and all other users of the school. |
| 249 | Marian Grothey | Closing this school would be a very short-sighted move. This is a popular school, very much part of the local community. Edinburgh needs this sort of school to keep up high standards of education, locally available for all. |
