Richard Pressley | Frankly, it's time for the Univeristy of Chicago to move into the 21st century. We already have some great traditions and we don't need to "save" this one. A lot of young people like myself were intimidated by the U of C application. The administration is doing something smart: they want more people to apply to the school so that they can reject people. I have no problem with that. We are one of the best Universities on the planet and we deserve to be ranked higher. There are some people who believe that the U of C is selling out. I don't care. My parents shelled out thousands of dollars for my education and I want my school to be recognized when applying for jobs and other opportunities. Rankings do matter. Sacrificing a small thing like the uncommon application is not selling out. It's smart Our school was heading into the shitter in terms of reputation but some bold people in the administration stood up and said enough is enough. Our ranking has gone up. Our alumni donations have also gone up. My fellow U of C students need to stop crying and try to look at things more practically.

Kaury Eisenman | I absolutely do not support the initiative for the UofC to adopt the common application.
Adrian Blazek | UChicago students and staff are proud to be uncommon.

J. Collin Poczatek | And it's not like I was really inclined to give them money after graduating.

On top of this, the Uncommon App felt easier to fill out than the Common App. The Uncommon App draws individuals who enjoy being uncommon. I feel that the Common App cannot allow you to get a feel for a school as much as the Uncommon App did. |

Ariana Johnston | As a first-generation, low-income applicant, I find it hilarious that the admissions officers actually find the Uncommon App to be intimidating. The essay questions were quirky, not scary. It was much less difficult to come up with a Mad Hatter tea party menu than to decide which inspirational people in my life would appeal the most to the specific college I was applying to. I realize that applicants will still be required to fill out specific UChicago essay questions, but the portion that will be replaced with the Common Application was routine name-address-phone number. I find it almost offensive that anybody would think that I, a low-income girl without a private school education and counseling center, might find those kinds of questions intimidating.

I had fun writing the essays, and not doing the common app. Chicago IS unique, and should stay that way. |

Corey Ackerman | The uncommon application is what keeps Chicago unique! Lets keep it that way...
Jacob Friedman | I actually liked the questions that the Uncommon app asked. The common app sucks.
Anonymous | I would not have considered this school with such admiration if it had offered the Common App versus the Uncommon app. I'm afraid University of Chicago would become more common without their specific and incredible application.
