Jonathan FleckThe Uncommon App was one of the things that drew me to apply to the U of C in the first place, and one of the things that encouraged me to eventually go there. I definitely think that it should be kept.

Joan LiszkaFilling out the uncommon app was the only fun part of the whole crazy application process!!! I actually enjoyed writing my essay. Why would the school want anyone not crazy enough to absolutely love this fantastic application?

Natalia Iwona OstrowskiThe UnCommon Application was one of the things that attracted me to this school. I had so much fun applying here compared to other schools that had the common app. The UnCommon application is unique, eccentric, and so much more than any other school. Truly, I think this school is quite self-selective, and this application is one that helps make the first cut. The University of Chicago has a certain sense of pride in its students, its faculty, and its application. They are every thing but common and ordinary. Please, don't let that go to waste.

Steven LaRueAs many have said, the uncommon app actually was one of the deciding factors for me to go here, and is one of the things that helps me to distinguish UC from other schools along with us in the top 10.

Dana SnitzkyWhat are you people thinking? How will we have a self-selected student body without the Uncommon App?
AnonymousNot only this, but the school should not give the option of submitting the common or uncommon application. If someone can't take the time to fill out the uncommon application, they don't deserve to be here.
Ryan Mortensen-ReedThe Common App would totally change the culture of the student body at UChicago.

Miles HopgoodAs a Senior, the Uncommon App was one of the first things that stood out about the University of Chicago. Without that, I would not have taken the same interest in the school that brought me here.

Heather Cole-MullenThe Uncommon Application helps determine the students who apply to the school, so it has a large effect on the school's culture.
FrancescaBut this was the only application that I actually enjoyed writing! It's the only application I know of that promotes genuine thought and sincerity from applicants! And isn't that what the application is supposed to elicit from applicants? Part of my decision to come here was that I would be at the kind of school that would make such a thought-provoking, life-shaking application, and that my life would be filled with such experiences, intensified by the reality of being where it all actually happens. Don't change the application to meet the standard, let it be the standard for all other schools to follow.

AnonymousBetween closing the A-level (til 2009) and shifting it to Crear (the worst alternative), exchanged private buses for unreliable CTA buses, closing the Shoreland, increasing the undergruduate population, increasing the student tuition charges while still raising student population (raise one... lower the other), having the common application seek to make UChicago more like Northwestern (we left the Big Ten in football for a reason, let's not return to it... or replace the Reg with a football field), getting rid of the tennis courts in favour of more library space, still not solving race relations at the quad club, limited email space (many of us are at 99.9% usage after being told we had to wipe out half of our emails), and many more (it is late). Why must the university seek to make my last year at UChicago unqualifiably worse than my first year?

Daniel M. ChoiIf it were not for the Uncommon Application, I would not have known of this school, let alone apply and enroll in it. The University of Chicago is built on that distinction from others; even our history is full of commitment to free inquiry and critical thought--co-ed black-admitting, refusal to give McCarthy the name of Communist sympathizers, support against the Federal Gov't seizing goods from the Oriental Institute... If we were superficial enough to consider our standing in rankings done by shady institutions and shoddy methods, we would not be the University of Chicago and I cannot imagine being able to donate my life's earnings to a school that I no longer recognize. The Uncommon Application is what keeps the U of C the way it is. I hope that you understand that integral part of our identity. Daniel Moon-Hyung Choi. Class of 2010.

Karl NorbyThe uncommon app is part of what makes U of C the place that it is. I think that the common app would only serve to make the university more, well, common.
Emily ChaseI applied to ten schools, and the uncommon application was my favorite. The policy of no word limits made me feel like the admissions staff actually cared what I had to write. I understand that we are trying to attract a larger applicant pool, but I believe there are other ways.
Sherrick LewisThe Uncommon Application is what makes the University of Chicago Unique. If applicants dont feel that they have the time to complete it then they will not enjoy life here.
